I get the impression from this that Rads has made it clear that it’s get fully fit or bust. It also confirms he will be with us in 2021. I do really hope it gets sorted and we get a fully fit GB starting and playing well for us. He’s a real asset if he can get that sorted, if not he needs to do the right thing by himself and retire.

| Interesting! I read along the lines of it's not looking good and wigan will support george if the worst outcome which is retirement comes which would be a real shame for george

I agree, not sounding good. No mention of a potential solution, more, he's seen a surgeon and we will support him.
I dont even read into that he is going to be here 2021.

| The tone sounds like they think he’s ready for retirement but if he thinks that’s the case may be a different matter.
A mess really.

Some people in WW need to get to the bottom of how we signed a player with what is clearly a potential career ending injury.
This hasn't developed while he's been here, this is a legacy issue.
Am I right in thinking GB was offered around the NRL and no one took him? Yet along we come and we do and he's crocked.
Maybe he's fixable but we should never have got him while in this condition.

The story at the time was no NRL clubs wanted to take a risk on him due to the nature of the injury and then he signed with us.
As others have said to me it reads we will support him regardless of what happens, which is absolutely proper and correct, but it does have a negative undertone.

| I didnt realise he was a marquee player.
Hopefully the club can recoup some of the vast salary via insurance if he retires.

| Sounds like he is getting a second opinion from a specialist. If that second opinion isnt good the club will look to support him is how i am understanding it.

There doesn’t seem much hope in that article, the fact that the problem is effecting GB in his day to day life is not good.
It’s remarkable that he has been able to secure such a lucrative contract in that condition.

We let these guys forgo further education, or getting skills and experience in a career, give them a short term contract in the knowledge that we'll wash our hands of them at the end of it if they lose form or get injured. I don't think it's unfair of him to see out his contract when he's given up all that. He presumably has a family to provide for and a lot of these guys don't have a lot of job opportunities beyond rugby. He's trying to get fit and be a good player for Wigan, that is doing the decent thing too. These aren't just pieces of meat who exist solely for our entertainment.

Fans can be extremely fickle. If a player leaves for a new challenge/bigger contract they are quick to call him for lack of loyalty. If he gets a serious injury they want to bin him off.

| You are looking at this through fans blinkers, and unfortunately this is business.
If he can’t play, he can sit and claim his wages in what will inevitably be his final contract/
/payday.
He’s not going to voluntarily retire, unless he can get a payoff or insurance claim.

It’s harsh but ultimately what has to happen. Wigan as a club has to come first, more so in ‘fan less’ times when income is limited. If he can’t play due to injury, he’s got to go. We have to be ruthless though I would [ilike[/i us to show some compassion in this scenario and at least pay him out an amount.
