| It looks like Wigan and Leeds are the cash cows for the RFL again. Let us play someone else their FFS!

| I have to admit I've pretty much lost interest in it now due to the insistence on it being an additional 23rd round played before the split, when there seems so many better ways to fit it into the season. We played Leeds 5 times last season, it could've easily been 6 if we'd had a decent cup run - far too often IMO. The fixtures are seemingly pulled from nowhere and can have a real impact on a team's season when relegation is at stake. The format of MW is the major issue that wasn't resolved when the structure was changed.

| Waited and waited for it to be announced, got bored of waiting so booked a holiday for the middle of May thinking that it would be ok as last year it was played right at the back end of May to then find out they've moved the date.
The RFL don't like making things simple.

And studiously avoiding both bank holidays in May to make things as inconvenient as possible - at least the Hulls won't have far to travel back on Sunday evening
[EDIT] - and I've just checked (on a whim) - the wendy-ball FA Cup final is on the same bleedin Saturday Don't they possess a calendar or anything? Are they deliberately vying for the THE most incompetent sports governing body of all feckin time?!!

| said on the Leeds forum, should be us against Cas and wigan against Catalans (they got wakey and that could have a huge unfair impact on finishing positions) also split the Hull derby? also overkill. why not Wire vs Hull? Hull KR vs Widnes? the fans will still go, its about the weekend but teams playing each other 5/6 times a season is ridiculous.

| Not remotely interested.
A concept past its sell by date and I have no idea why it continues. I'll correct myself in that it probably makes a few bob therefore it will continue until the crowds drop to insufficient numbers where no money is made. I imagine Newcastle was picked because the cost is less than at City.
The only way in my opinion that it could work is if it wasn't a 27th round and it was the opening round of the season. There are at least two problems with this namely where could it be played and which SL teams would give up a home fixture?
The weekend just adds zero value to the sport to me and represents just how unimaginative the marketing guys are at SL and Sky.
Frankly Scarlett I couldn't give a damn.

City councils are paying the RFL to take the event there so the actual crowd figure, whilst important, isn't the be all and end all.
I can't agree it's past its sell by date, infact its the opposite IMO. It's growing and getting better (although they really need to work harder at the fixture selection) and the crowd last year would back that up. The weekend gets far more publicity then a normal weekend of superleague action and takes over a Sky Sports channel for 2 days which can be no bad thing.
Do I think it's perfect? No, it needs tweaking but if they do it could go on a level. The venue in Newcastle is perfect (we had a great weekend last year). It brings in a lot of locals, loads of Cumbrians and also many league fans who are looking to have a good weekend. I'd move the CC final back to May and put the magic weekend as a super 8 round (plus middle 8's) on the August bank holiday weekend. It would add meaning to the fixtures although we would need a free weekend from Newcastle United being at home (so the event would probably have to continue to move around venues which is no bad thing).
It's a great concept IMO and will be around for years to come and so it should be.

| Why don't they vary it, the rugby league can decide who plays on what days but then to add a little spice, the teams on each day should go into a hat and be drawn live on the pitch as to who plays who, this would mean that the stadium would be pretty full at the start of each day and would also mean that the teams would have less chance of weighing up the opposition which in turn could lead to more open games and dare i say it .....shocks. Its only my thoughts but the whole concept needs a shake up.

I don't think fans would turn up not knowing who or when they would play. It would be difficult to sell that to the host city, would fans book hotels?

What is the concept? A good weekend? I thought the idea was to take it to developing regions a la Cardiff? Is there any strategic intent in this from SL point of view other than it is a low cost event? Why don't we hold a Test match then at Newcastle?
We already know we will in all likelyhood be playing Leeds at least 5 times next season. What is the point of it all?
I normally agree with you Nicky on most things but on this occassion we will have to agree to disagree.
It's just lazy unimaginative marketing which is pretty standard for the game.

They would know which day they played! just not who they played until an hour or so before the kick off, so the booking of hotels wouldn't be an issue. I'm not saying this is the answer but the rugby league need to come up with something better, but if I'm being brutally honest the magic weekend should be scrapped especially now that the new top /middle /bottom league has been introduced.
