| Four years foe Gelling? Way over the top IMO.
Don't see how he warrants it. Fans favourite for riding a BMX to work must count for a lot!
He's just not a centre given how he plays and quite often once he gets the ball that is as far as the attack goes.

| Excellent news and well deserved.
He's constantly improved over his time at Wigan and I can't see why that it would stop now.
Well done to IL for getting one of the leagues top centres tied down to a long term deal. He'd walk into every SL side apart from Leeds imo.

But don't you always argue that the length of a contract is meaningless these days? So it hardly matters that it's four years, does it?

I wouldn't swap him for Percival, not sure whether I'd swap him for Turner or not.
I rate Gelling as an athlete and he carries the ball well, he gets through a shedload of work for you guys (which works in your current structure where you make most of your ground on the edges). If I was a Wigan fan, my concern would be that a change in your structure would make this quality of Gelling's less important. With a 4 year contract, this is entirely possible. However, due to the fact that he is an athlete, chances are he can probably transfer to either second row or wing with relative ease, if needed in the long-term.

Hahahaha touché.
Gelling is quality and IS a centre. He was the form centre in the league before he got injured, no one could stop him.

| Give it a rest Dave honestly. Do you know the details and terms of the contract?
Whilst I agree Gelling is far from the finished article he is improving every year and is constantly adding to his skill set. He also racks up big meters helping us with our sometimes very average go forward.
It's not as if there are a wealth of quality centres queuing up to join Wigan, indeed I think this deal is another sign Sarg is out of the door in order to retain some stability in the back line.
A right edge of Tomkins and Gelling in SL could and sometimes has been devastating. 4 years playing as a foil for Sam Tomkins, much like the New Zealand Warriors do committing players into contact with big guys and then using Sam as a foil will only open up more space for him.
It is depressing that all some can do is moan. The glory days are gone. The Salary Cap is a real thing that cannot be ignored and the top players will not come to SL even with the marquee player rule, which will just attract ageing stars past their best and maybe bring back some Brits.
Did you moan when we resigned Sam Tomkins because I can't remember the last time you posted without being ridiculously over critical.

it was 8 weeks or so back in April, so I'd guess the Widnes game - might not be match fit for Whinos.
Quietly chuffed with this, he has the odd brain-fart (and his carry is often suspect), but when he's good he's a joy to watch. Improved all the while he's been here and if he does see out the full 4 years I can't see anything but onwards & upwards at the moment.

| Well, regardless of what others may think *looks in Dave O's direction*, I couldn't be happier.
Gelling has been right up there with the best centres in the competition and has quite often been our most creative player, making chances for everyone around him.
OK, so not everything comes off, but at least he has the balls to try to make things happen.
Well done young man, now just continue as you have so far and (almost) everyone will be happy.

| Well deserved, came to Wigan as a project signing and has cemented his place in the first team. I remember the Wire fans laughing at us and slagging him off, well they're not now!
Yes, he's prone to a brain fart or two during a game but normally makes up for it. He is a beast going forward whether he's clearing his own line or with the opposition try line in sight, such a shame that his injury came at a time when it did..boy have we missed him.
To suggest he's only a fans favourite for "riding a bmx" is pretty poor of you there Dave.
Fully deserves a new contract over four years.
