| Exciting squad full of young lads chomping at the bit.
No point risking any players that aren't 100% in the superleague friendlies.

| Hampshire picked up a knock in the 19's fixture by all accounts. A real blow for him more then anything as he would have got a valuable run out in the first team.

| I'd feel much safer with Burgess at fullback both defensively and under the high ball then I would with Sarginson I think. There was some talk that Waney had said he may play Gelling there which surely can't be the case!
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Dom Manfredi can produce. The lads as strong as an ox and quick and he'll give them a real game.

| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Burgess #1, Gelling #2, Sarginson 4, Manfredi #5 for me.'"
We've leaked tries directly down his side every time Sarginson has played in the centres, plus Gelling lacks pace to play on the wing and looks much more comfortable at centre. I'd give Gelling and Burgess some time together to see if Gelling can finally put a string a decent performances in and form a decent partnership while we don't have Thornley.
Sarginson is an odd one for me, I can't really place him in a fixed position. I know he chopped and changed positions when he was at London. He's an excellent natural athlete and is pretty quick with good footwork, but I don't think he has the defensive game to play centre long-term, and he also cuts in a bit too much and isolates his winger. He's well down the pecking order to play in the halves, and Charnley, Burgess and Manfredi are much more natural wingers than he is. Maybe Sarginson's long-term position could be at fullback, particularly if the coaching staff want to use Hampshire at standoff?
For Friday I'd go:
Sarginson
Manfredi
Goudling
Gelling
Burgess
Green
Smith
Taylor
Powell
Crosby
Bateman
Hughes
McIlorum
Clubb
Dudson
Sutton
Williams
Expect it'll probably be Clubb at 13 with either Williams or Powell missing out and James on the bench, though.

| I actually think Sarginson could be a revelation at full back. His attacking play is definitely his strength and he has also played 6 in the past, I think if I remember correctly from his programme interview earlier on in the year FB is his preferred position. I'd go with:
1. Sarginson
2. Manfredi
3. Goulding
4. Gelling
5. Burgess
6. Green
7. Smith
8. Taylor
9. Williams
10. Clubb
11. Hughes
12. Bateman
13. McIlorum
14. James
15. Crosby
16. Farrell
17. Powell

Was thinking very much the same thing re Sarginson myself. At the moment he's a kind of jack of all trades, master of none.
He does seem a natural athlete and is agile but he doesn't seem to have the kind of rugby brain even young Burgess does (he is a pleasure to watch when in full flight he shows the presence of mind to pass inside to a supporting player which I am not sure Sarge would).
Full back might be an ideal position for him. He is certainly tall enough to compete for the high balls (something I think Hampshire will struggle with) and in joining the line rather than being part of it he has less to do in creating the play if you get my drift.

There is something funny about the Sam Hopkins situation, the Leigh fans love him (especially before he signed for Wigan) and he has been welcomed back with open arms.
Wigan signed a player with tremendous potential (Wigan's words) and apart from a pre season friendly he has been ignored.
A 17 year old I can understand but not a 23/24 year old who has played first team rugby for going on 4 years.
