Does anyone know Why the roof was left open knowing that the weather was going to be awful?

It seems such a shame not to have given us dry settled conditioned and a great surface for the game.

Wembley cost to Build = £750 million

Millennium stadium cost to build - £121 million

Both were built on the site of old stadiums
Both are fantastic stadiums

Now tell me how the hell did Wembley cost so much with the lack of a roof when the Millennium Stadium has one. How the hell did it cost so much to build a stadium in London compared to Cardiff.

The English could have had 6 Millennium Stadiums but no they build one with no roof for around 500 million more. Are they making up for it with the cost of the food in the stadium?

Quote: tank123 "Wembley cost to Build

As stadiums, the two don't compare at all. Say what you like about Wembley but it is an absolutely magnificent stadium. I'm sure if the consortium that built The Shard had chosen Tiger Bay instead of the Thames then they could also have saved a few quid. It is hard to compare something built in Cardiff in 1998 to something built in London in 2006/7.

Well it is obvious that the New Wembley Stadium does have a roof as does the Millenium Stadium.

One works and the other does not.

Had it have worked yesterday we might have seen a much better match.

Still with inflation you got to say that a stadium costing ovet 750 million not to have a roof is a joke.

Wembley does not have a retractable roof that covers the pitch. It has a retractable roof over the South, West & East stands. This is to allow light in during the day, so as to allow the grass to get some sun.

It was a conscious decision to not have a retractable roof that covers the pitch. The Emirates cost 350 Million - No roof. The Olympic Stadium cost 486 Million & the Arriva Stadium [Lansdown Road, Ireland] cost 498 Million Euros to build - both have no retractable roof.

How doesn't it work? I was sat on row 3 and apart from the odd drip is was perfectly dry all game.
