Thought we would struggle today and we did but its good to see us fight back and get the win in the end, we were crumbling and could have easily caved and lost the game. Green and Smiths kicking game is the best i've seen at wigan in a few years (not much to compare to i know) but I think Smith needs to work on his defence. Green is impressing me so far. Forwards stood up and counted. Hughes is not a centre, we need Goulding back ASAP! RE Castleford, I think they will do well this year, they've already shocked Leeds and Catalan and I can see why. The Wing/centre partnership of Carney and Webster is excellent, think they will shock a few more this year. Just hope they can sort the backroom problems out and get a new stadium.

phew. wasting the opportunity of hudds and wire losing would have been disappointing and we definitely missed gouldings defensive decision making.

Didn't go to the game today so can't give too much of an opinion but from what I've been reading on twitter and from people who went it appears that although we did get out of jail a bit at the end, overall it was actually a decent performance. Take into account people missing like Goulding, Hansen and Mossop it seems their replacements have stepped up pretty well against a very spirited Cas side who FIOS has already pointed out have shocked Leeds and Catalans so far this season.

I thought for the much part it was a very professional and pleasing performance from a Wigan side that proved they can play well when Sam Tomkins either isn't around or like today has an absolute nightmare! We let Cas get on a roll for 20 minutes in the second half and the pressure of the situation nearly killed us but we managed to hang in with the help of a post and pinched a win against a good Cas side I think we deserved.

Points from the game-

Tomkins fellow players won a game he didn't deserve to but it's about time it was that way round as he's won us enough.

Hughes is never ever ever a centre in a billion years. He's a cracking back rower but that is where he must play full stop.

Blake Green is a shrewd signing. He's a leader and a supreme organiser and is thriving at the club. He scored a perfectly good try when we were 22-4 or 22-10 up (can't quite remember which) that was ruled out for a knock on by a clueless Alibert.

Ben Flower and Gill Dudson are two fantastic young Welsh players that bodes well for them going forward.

We're pants when McIlorum goes off who is having a storming start to the year. I used to feel a bit nervy to start talking about him being as good as Roby but not anymore. He's a different style of player but he's now in that league. The lad is a machine. We fell apart when he went off today.

Finally Sean O'Loughlin is a supreme player. He was man of the match by a street today and is a pretty complete forward at the moment.

As for Cas they've built a really solid side for this year. That centre/wing combo of Webster and Carney is bruising although I feel they need more from Chase. He was running round like a headless chicken today and I thought Jamie Ellis brought far more direction.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable game of rugby league, worth every penny of the admission. Was quite pleased that Cas came back into it and made a good game of it, but a little bit close for comfort when Chase's DG hit the post!

Smith really needs to sharpen up his distribution, a few times today the pass went behind the receiver and we were lucky not to be punished for it. Also, Sam needs to stop dragging his feet and hesitating when chasing back kicks to touch.

As has already been mentioned, Lockers was an absolute powerhouse again, he just keeps getting better. A full season of this and he'll make a big claim for MOS.

Game could have gone either way. A probable Cas win if Chase's drop had been 5cm to the side, a draw if Halibut had got the rules right and not restarted the count after Cas charged down an attempted drop but fair play to Wigan for maintaining the composure to score on the bell.

played well 1st half even when getting pinged on the penalty count

started 2nd half well, but seemed to lose way a little when Micky M went off. It also had the feeling of Hudds Version 2. Start well and then look a little flat in attack whilst opposition grinding their way back into it

Cas threw everything and the kitchen sink at us in the 2nd half and really had a lot of momentum going. Their left sided attack as a couple of others have mentioned went really well and was very impressive

did well to come back down and score with what seemed like 1st time we had touched the ball for about 20 minutes, as the defence must have taken its toll as Cas gave the ball plenty of air when they had their tails up

all in all happy to come away with the points

Has the ruling on wiping the tackle count after a chargedown changed? I would have thought if an opposition player makes a play at the ball and the kicking team regather, it's back to zero? Genuinely don't know the answer.

Yes, it was one of the rule changes trialled in the pre-season and changed for this year. Some referees have been wiping the tackle count and some haven't.

Lockers, take a bow. The complete performance, without him we would have been dead and buried.
At 22 - 4 we had a penalty in front of the posts and should have taken the two to kill off the game.

Their left edge gave us lots of problems, but on the plus side both wingers and centres helped the young pack by sharing the workload. Sam had a game to forget, but was his foot in touch (again) when he fielded the ball? He's won us enough games so I guess we can forgive him this one.
Don't you just wish Ben Flower was 6" taller and two stone heavier.

The young props did really well. I'm wondering if Greg Burke needs a rest, he was struggling a bit late on.

Mickey Mac on current form is the best hooker in Superleague.

I thought the rule on the charge down had changed so we were very lucky to have got the "back to six" on Matty Smiths kick from which we then went on to score.

No it was trialled but wasn't one of the changes implemented.

rlHererl is a list of the rule changes.

Thought all changes trialled were accepted:
"The Rugby Football League has introduced nine rule changes to be enforced for the 2013 Super League and Championship competitions.

The rules were all trialled and welcomed after Leeds' friendly with Wakefield and Batley-Dewsbury on Boxing Day."

I think all the rules they accepted were trialled but not all the rules they trialled were accepted. There was also one that said if you kick the ball dead in goal from you're own half the other team gets a 40m tap restart, which I don't think has been adopted.
