Rumours have surfaced that Carmont could be in the frame for an NRL swansong next season after ending his hugely-successful five-year stay at Wigan.

And Bell’s silence will only fan the flames that the 34-year-old could be on their radar.'"

Good luck George, a contract with NZ Warriors which would allow him to be close to his family would be fully deserved.

I think that is putting a slant on things that isn't really there. He left Wigan and the sport because was ready to retire from RL not because he wanted to continue in the game back home for family reasons.

If he was so convinced he was ready to hang his boots up I think this is a bit sad if there is anything in it because if his body wasn't up to another season in SL it's not going to be up to one in the NRL.

Unemployment is a scary thing though and I would imagine if he does play on that is what the motivation will be.

If so it hasn't taken him long to decide his exit from the game was premature (and a pity he didn't realise this before deciding to leave Wigan). You are a long time retired in sport.

He did say in a few of his interviews that his family were ready to go home as part of the reason for his decision. I would guess if it was any other club the answer would be no.

Good luck to the bloke.

Officially RLFAN's most Doe-eyed Happy Clapper. Big Steve wrote: The Internet has provided some wonderful creativity, opportunities and knowledge sharing but it has also given a worldwide forum for people you would leave a full pint behind in the pub to avoid having to listen to them. aboveusonlypie... If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg

Whatever his reasons, i can only wish him all the very best... I think it churlish to question his reasoning.

Ah, good taste! What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness. Pablo Picasso:2572.jpg

Dean Bell may want to try and tempt George into 1 more year, but this what the great man himself says ...

"George Carmont insists he won't change his mind when it comes to playing rugby, but admits he would still like to be involved in sport.

As part of a special series on Wigan TV, we've been speaking to the four key players who won't be with us next season.

In his last ever interview at Wigan, the Centre told us he would have to take "any work he could get" when he returned to New Zealand - but wouldn't be making a return to the game.

To see the full interview, where George is speaking to Michael McIlorum, go to www.wiganwarrios.com/tv"

think this sectionis the relvant bit

"And a role working as an off-field mentor for young players, while also providing cover for the three-quarters, may appeal to the dad-of-five"

looks more like a cover than regular playing position which may suit his body condition - as by all accounts a full time playing position may be too much.

Either way I wish him luck.

The bloke has said numerous times he wants to go back to New Zealand so his 5 kids can be near their grand parents and i'm certain he didn't think this opportunity would come along. I'm chuffed to bits for him if this comes off because he deserves it and to get a role of mentoring the youngsters whilst continuing to play for another year is brilliant for a bloke who has a family to support and was probably worrying about what he could get involved with when he got home to help pay the bills.

Any Wigan fan who takes this as some sort of slap in the face for the club is being petty in the extreme IMO.

Dan Sarginson: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to join the biggest name in the competition" 18/10/2013 Tony Clubb: "This is a new exciting chapter of my life signing for Wigan and I couldn't be happier" 18/10/2013 Romain Navarrete: “I’m very happy to have signed for Wigan Warriors. As soon I knew that Wigan were interested, they were the only team that I wanted to sign for. To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.”:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10172.jpg

George will always be a legend, and has earned the right to leave on a high. You are a long time retired in sport, but you also never get a second chance to see your kids grow up in their home.

Which bit of "unemployment is s scary thing" and "your are along time retired from sport" didn't you read in my previous post? I can understand those motivators quite easily. I still think it will be sad if he has to push his body where he was adamant it wasn't going.

If he [idoes[/i think he can do another year there is nothing wrong with being disappointed it is with another club any more than when any other player who's contract is up we'd like to keep chooses to leave (and he's have a far easier time of it here than in the NRL).

I got those bit loud and clear but I also got a sense you've taken it as some sort of kick in the teeth that he's thinking of continuing with another club which is crazy. He's a Kiwi, he was moving back to New Zealand and I'm 100% confident the NZ warriors are the only side he would have signed for.

I watched the interview with him on the Wigan site last night and I got a sense that he simply didn't think he would get an opportunity to continue playing professional rugby league back home in New Zealand as he obviously doesn't have many clubs to choose from. His decision to retire was always about taking his kids home to be near their grand parents so I don't understand the point you keep making him about him pushing his body too far. His age and fitness were always a secondary concern in his retirement decision.

Good luck to him.

Well you'd be wrong then.

I don't see how that argument stacks up. All he had to do was ask his agent to see what was on offer in the NRL and instead of saying he was retiring he could have said he was off to an NRL club once his contract was up.

You can stop worrying now Dave as it looks like Carmont has decided to retire.

The 34-year-old recently trained with the New Zealand Warriors after returning to Auckland with his family, but is thought to have abandoned plans of a swansong season in the NRL.'"
