It seems we're chasing both these players as possible replacements for Tommy and Finchy. Be interesting to see what people think about which one we should sign? Both young and both got lots of potential under the right leadership. Personally i think Gaskell looks the better buy......reminds me of a young Tony Myler!!

Smith is already a done deal. I can't see Saints releasing Gaskell, although I would like him at Wigan.

To be honest I hope to god we don't sign smith as he's just your average run of the mill scrum half and it shows the lack of quality halves available at the moment. I hope you sign him 
Lee Gaskell is going to be a top class player and IMO will be better than jonny lomax and is the best young player at saints by country mile! He's a naturally gifted stand off I've seen for a long long time. I also think Gaskell would fit into your style of play with the well structured attack. He also has a very good kicking game for such a young kid. My only negative on lee, is his decision making at times can be wrong but I think that will come with more experince. I hope he stays at saints  |

Not sure about everyone elses views but have not really seen much of him. Have only seen him have one good game, he was playing for you men i think. As nothing official has been made yet, the rumours here say you have Brough and Matty Smith on board next season. Gaskell is coming to us as i have heard yesterday, the deal has been done. What would be the Saints fans views on that? |

Mattysmith is 24 and has a good kicking game. He is the organising type of scrum half in the deacon mould. He will go well at wigan nexty year.

Totally agree with you on Gaskell!!. The problem he's having is he doesnt get along with Mike Rush and no matter how good he plays in the under 20's, Rush will never pick him due to his dislikeing of him. By all acounts, it goes back to his junior days in the under 15's when Lee said something out of turn to one of the junior coaches. At the moment 7 super league clubs have spoken to Lee's agent and all 7 have offered him more than his current contract at saints, wigan offering him the most. I darnt tell you where i got this information from.....his dad would kill me!!!

I would be made up with smith and gaskell. Our side will have an increadibly british look about it. There would only be PAAT and Eric who would be overseas players in our 17.

Gaskell reminds me of Cliff Hill a Wigan standoff of the late 60s who was a really classy runner,I think Gaskell would blossom at Wigan.
Smith to me seems more of a forwards halfback,maybe thats why Shaun Wane as a leaning towards him. |
