We definately had one eye on next week after having the game wrapped up by half time.

We did with Joe Mellor at fullback. I thought Mellor went well particularly defensively as Salford threw a lot at him.

Really got stuck in Mellor even picking up and dumping a Salford forward on his backside iirc near their line.

He's obviously lost some zip of the mark due to injury but if he can alter his game accordingly he can cut it at Wigan still.

Hopefully it is just a case of Wane giving Mossop a run out for 30 mins before next week and as we were well in control there was no need to put him back on. We may as well keep him fresh and we certainly need him for the Saints game.

I've never really been concerned about Mellor's defence, but Russell's has worried me for a few years. It's rarely been a problem at U20's level, even at fullback, because we've usually been too dominant for it to matter, but he's far from being up to SL level yet.

Mellor will get better and his confidence will grow the more games he plays. Playing in the halves with finch is going to do him the world of good. Russell will improve as he gets older, plays more games for Leigh and also taking his chance in the first team. Let's not forget he's only 18, not many people are playing first team at that age.
