| For me one of the major reasons we lost that game was because we just had no direction when it mattered. In the last 20-30 minutes the gameplan just seemed to go out the window and all the players in the key positions, Leuluai, Finch, McIlorum and O'Loughlin seemed to go missing when we had the ball or just made incredibly poor decisions. This isnt to fault the lack of effort they showed, and indeed in defence some of these players were immense, but we really needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck but no one stood up to organise us and get us playing. The game was there for the taking but instead we began to play like headless chickens and make wrong decisions and the playmakers didnt really step up for me when needed. In contrast Briers as much as I dislike him, started to boss Warrington about and dictate play.

| McIlorum wasn't on the pitch for most of the last 20 iirc, we looked better when he was on.

| I disagree to be honest, I thought Finch, McIlorum and O'Loughlin did alright and organised fairly well in attack but lack of composure from the whole team was the big let down.
O'Loughlin was struggling and considering that he had a very good game, McIlorum made a few errors of judgement or passing but was also pretty good and Finch organised well too.
The other players seemed to have the mind set of having to either make a break or get rid of the ball, which doesn't help the playmakers who have to play their usual game regardless.

| Not sure what was wrong with Finch, took the wrong option too many times, poor kicking, slow handling, often caught in possession. Not like his normal self at all.

Agreed.
Overall I thought we were very flat in attack last night and very unadventurous with ball in hand.

| We're not building pressure. Everytime we're close to the oppositions line on the last tackle we try to score with a kick to the corner - when has that come off this season? Or on a consistent basis? It hasn't. Usually leads to us conceding a penalty!
Grubber behind the line. Build pressure and keep composed. Tommy has a short kicking game as does Finch - use it! You don't have to score off every play.

Agreed. Did we even try to get a repeat set last night? Some of the decisions that were taken at key times were baffling to say the least.
Also why did we keep attacking down the left in the 2nd half when Richards was injured and wouldnt have been able to finish a half chance anyway. Our right hand attack has been lethel this season but Goulding and Charnley may as well have been sat in the stands having a cup of tea for the amount of ball they got. There were a few times we had overlaps, indeed there was one occasion in the 2nd half when we had something like a 5 on 2, and we never went that way. If it did some forward invariably got in the way who then simply trundled it up. When the pressure was on we showed a lack of RL brains and we needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck but no one did.

if he has this effect on you...he's doing his job well....see every class scrum half, stand off etc in history..hated by the opposition...adored by their own fans.

I started a thread last year on this very subject because I was baffled and annoyed at why we never use the Grubber kick to try and force a repeat set. It's a bomb to Richards each and every time.

Totally agree. It's Tommy and Finch's job to get that ball out wide and they failed, and it cost us the game.

Exactly right.
We had more than enough field position to win that last night, just lacked the composure needed at the right end of the pitch.

| I can't believe some of the comments on this thread. I thought your attacking play was outstanding and finch a real danger.
under sw your attacking play has gone up massively. as much as i don't want to say this, i thought overall you were
the better side and still can't believe we won.

| I too cant understand some of the comments. I thought for the most part Finch was excellent although his long kicking game was shocking at times. He was putting people into gaps all over the place. it was a credit to Warringtons last ditch tackling/defence that we didnt score another 3 or 4 trys. On another night we would of won that game.
I was disappointed with Tommy. I thought he was well below par and looked to be carrying a knock.
Although Lauaki's penalty ultimately lost us the game i think its unfair to pin all of the blame on him. Yes it was stupid at a critical moment but if Monagans try had been ruled out for obstruction as Charnleys was V Leeds for a similar offence and if Briers had been rightly picked up offside for his try then we would be celebrating a win. Lets also not forget we missed a few kicks at goal that had they gone over we would of won or at least drawn.

| Still not moved on with the kicking game for the last 2 seasons. We seem to be very predictable on the 5th tackle, kick to the opposition full back. No deep kick behind the full back , no kick between the full back and the winger turning them around no grubber near the line ( only over hit kicks Tomkins and o loughlin )
Just notice how many times hodgson had to move to field our kicks last night. Check Briers kicking game as opposed to ours.
Need to focus on the kicking game IMO.

Couldn't agree more.
