Please read the sun page 57 Karen Brady who is on the board at west ham and the FA has said that in a couple of years rugby clubs WILL NOT be allowed to groundshare with football.

Groundhog Day. I wouldn't worry there's a few football pitches on scot lane they can play there.

That's where any credence to the 'story' is lost.

If this was to be the case (which i doubt) IL would certainly have made a statement already about future plans.

Mmhmm... legal minefield. We've got a lease until 2059, cancelling the lease early will incur serious financial penalties, and are the FA going to pay that for us and the other teams who ground share with Rugby (League & Yawnion)? Strongly doubt it.

I guess the Sun must've heard someone on Karen Brady's voicemail saying that they wished Football didnt groundshare with Rugby and it would only take a couple of years to get it pushed through.

Indeed. I take it she thinks it'll be ok to share with athletics.

A modest fraction of the sort of money they routinely throw away on one failed England manager after another should be enough to secure us a new stadium.

Quote: While all of us at West Ham would be happy to share with athletics at the Olympic stadium, there is no way we would go into a ground-sharing agreement with a rugby club. It is a complete non-starter for us.

Impossible, actually, as soon it will be a breach of Premier League rules to share your ground with rugby.

I hope the FA have a bottomless pit of money ready for when they lose the various court cases for instigating breach of contract. Then again it's the Sun and Karen Brady so it'll be complete bollox.

Who actually owns the DW? Is it Wigan Athletic, WWRLFC or both? (Or neither?)

Neither, it's owned by Dave Whelan (Whelco) with (I think) a small percentage by Wigan council.

The way I see it we're in a 'win-win' situation regardless:

* Premier League Rules are not changed for clubs with existing leases, no change - WIN.

* Premier League Rules changed and (assuming WAFC are still the the PL) Wigan RL are paid millions in compensation, new ground built - WIN.

Nowt will happen though. chillpill.gif

This is a non starter, the FA can't wave off legal contracts, lets face it many stadia even like Wembley rely on "other" events to keep the coffers coming in.

And that's precisely the reason she should be in the kitchen sorting out her family's Christmas dinner.
