| Shaun Wane is to ditch the military training in favour of a warm-weather training camp in America to help his team prepare for their 2012 assault.
He reckons it will combine the best of the ‘military’ experiences while also providing the perfect setting – and climate – to sharpen up their skills with the ball.
Shaun said, “This camp will still be a hard week for them, we’re going to push them physically and mentally, while it also allow us to get out onto the pitch and do some ball work.
“We’re going to take in a few NFL games and a UFC training camp as well. It’ll be tough, believe me.”
The camp has been planned for mid-December
Wane added: “We want to have it early so that when everyone comes back they’re ready to rip in and go.”
Wane is certainly doing things his was and rightly so, wait till the Wire fans latch onto the UFC training camp part .

| I thought we ditched the warm weather training under Madge because being in sunnier climes was in part just a distraction? Too much of a holiday atmosphere no matter how hard you intend to make it??
I am pretty sure the fact we ditched the warm weather training was welcomed on here when we did it and seen as a good move by most of the fans.

Not to learn anything though, they are teaching the MMA/UFC guys how to perfect their wrestling techniques

| As Wane says in the article “The military camps were great but we want to keep things fresh."
I'm inclined to agree with Shaun, I'm sure the military camps were great. But this would the the third consecutive year of that type of preseason. That would be overkill IMO, it's effectiveness on the players would probably wane due to familiarity with what's required at these camps.
A different type of environment with an emphasis on other areas will go along way also to freshening things up.

Warm weather training is only a jolly if the management let it become one. Of course some people on here didn't see that and just thought warm weather = jolly, freezing weather = good. Somehow I think we can safely assume Wane won't be letting a trip to America just before Xmas to become a chance to do some cheap shopping.

| well the back end of the season we looked to comfortable and going through the paces maybe because nothing new had been implemented?? i remember the first preseason under madge all the players where saying how tough it was and how they was loving it there was a new story every day under hes gruling regieme but not much was said this preseason.. after all it will be very easy to see come beging of the season if it was a jolly with the lads by performance on the pitch and the photos what get uploaded.

| I see nothing wrong with the new approach as long as it's implemented correctly and the team get's put through their paces, I'm pretty sure Wire went on their annual pre season warm weather training this year and they were simply the best team in the competition.

| Wire go to Tenerife to do their warm weather training, the guys always seem to come back refreshed even though they are training, if at the end of the day you play most of your games on dry hard surfaces it makes sense to train on them.

| I cant see Wane and Bitcon letting this turn into a holiday. im sure it will be hard work and a good trip for the coaches and team to bond and come together. Pity we couldnt of had a pre season friendly over there so we could go on a P^SS up and a holiday

| A change may well be needed though as doing the same pre-season each year would probably start to lose it's benefit. The 'training' aspect is important but it's not always rugby related, it seems to be more about getting the group together and getting them doing some hard work after the short break.
Given that a lot of players are interested in NFL and UFC it seems likely that the training camp will give them something they'll enjoy. At the end of the day there's nothing wrong with the players enjoying themselves as long as they are putting the work in when training. It should be beneficial as long as the training they do is still rigorous enough to prevent the players from taking things lightly.

I don't see why people are bothered where they go for pre season. So long as its tough and challenging both mentally and physically and relevant, who actually gives a damn?
