| After all the talk about players going to aus for more money i think we need to make a big change in the way we run our game and the way it is promoted this is the way i would change it.
1) home grown players who are club trained and brought through the junior systems only half there wage will count on the cap. That would really be an incentive to promote from within and clubs should be rewarded for all the hard work time and money they put in these young lads.
2) bring the millenium magic to the northwest the city of manchester stadium can hold around e.g 60,000 over 2 days we could have 100,000 supporters through the gates it would look fantastic on tv,everyone can get to it easier, and it wouldnt cost familys an arm and a leg to get there also give free tickets to schools in manchester to get them interested in the game.
3) bring back the lancashire-yorkshire test series we have far to many good players to cram them into and england side we should let them play a series and pick the best to represent england. I think the exiles is a good idea but im not to botherd seeing aussies play england in a one off
4) bring back the lancashire and yorkshire cups and let the bbc cover or espn the more publicity we get the bigger the game will grow plus it will help to promote players from within as you would use your squad strengh in depth alot more.
5) why do we have to have a hub cap as a trophy it looks like something what st pats under nines would win in other sports they have massive trophys for winning the league and good prize money afterall to be the best team over a season for 27 weeks is a big acheivement and should be seen in higher regard than just get a wheel trim.
6)This is the biggest change i would make get some nrl referees to come over they have so many over there and i think they would benefit from it as we would. Our refs sometimes are awful and the lines men worse also the video referee would not give a try if it is a forward pass the most stupid rule ive ever heard of.

| I'm not too sure about this England - Exiles concept as where do we go with internationals if the Exiles win. It's depressing enough that we're unable to compete with the Aussies & Kiwis. If the Exiles win it would be another nail in the coffin of the international game, the state of the sport internationally is a prime reason we're losing players to Yawnion.

I'd also say that players who stay at the club for over 5 years should only have half their wage count as well. Any players that stay at the same club for 10 years have only 10% of their wages count.

Was mentioned at the fans forum a while ago that there are two huge cities in Liverpool and Manchester where virtually nothing is known about RL. A massive missed opportunity imo.

We all know how huge and competitive SOO is in Aus. We need to replicate this asap.
Quote: bestie1983 "4) bring back the lancashire and yorkshire cups and let the bbc cover or espn the more publicity we get the bigger the game will grow plus it will help to promote players from within as you would use your squad strengh in depth alot more. '"
Sky's near monopoly of RL in this country has to come to an end. I'm not saying Sky should drop their RL coverage but a bit more competition wouldn't go amiss. There doesn't seem to be a week goes by on here without someone complaining about the commentary/coverage on Sky.
Quote: bestie1983 "5) why do we have to have a hub cap as a trophy it looks like something what st pats under nines would win in other sports they have massive trophys for winning the league and good prize money afterall to be the best team over a season for 27 weeks is a big acheivement and should be seen in higher regard than just get a wheel trim.'"
A given really. It seems ridiculous that you get next to nothing for finishing top after 27 rounds. It's starting to take away the importance of the regular season. Don't get me wrong, Friday was amazing but in the grand scheme of things it meant little as long as we finish in the top 8 come September.

The referees in this country are ridiculous and are one of the biggest reasons that is making our game look amateurish. In regard to the forward pass/VR issue, if the VR can look to see if a ball goes backwards for a knock on, why can't they look for it with forward passes?

You're missing the point. The result of the Exiles game is relatively unimportant - in fact I fully expect England to lose. The idea is that we're getting a competitive practice game instead of tonking the French again (which helps neither side).

| The RFL needs to do some serious advertising on TV, internet, radio...everywhere, really. One massive campaign a year would be great for the game and can only raise awareness.

I wouldn't mind England losing the first game at all. Will make the game the year after a lot more competitive with a lot more pride at stake from both sides.

It's good experience for the England team even if they do lose.

| I like the sound of the Lancs/Yorks cups coming back but I would do it this way:
Scrap the NR Cup and have the Lancs/Yorks cups instead with Championship sides entering with SL U20 teams. The two winners then meet in Blackpool (trophy name TBC). Maybe even have it as a double header before a Lancs v Yorks first team game.

| So our already relatively tired player should play in another cup comp?
No thanks. Not for me.
Don't mind the exiles game just for the competitive element.
Aus refs won't even entertain the idea of coming here.
Agree with the hub cap as a material point. But does it really matter?
It isn't the trophy that's the issue. It's the occasion made out of winning the title

I don't think 1 or 3 more games will really make that much of a difference imo. If the Aussie refs don't come over here then send our refs over there one at a time and promote a junior ref in their absence.
With regard to the "hub cap", I think that was what the OP was saying that there should be more of a deal made about finishing top. A bigger trophy would be nice, but it's not the be all and end all.

| The question is, can clubs AFFORD to pay players more? Many don't appear to make much of a profit as it is.

No thats the problem!
Although I do agree players clubs bring through the junior set up should only count half their wage under the cap, otherwise more players are going to go to union or the NRL.

Not too concerned about them going to the NRL as it is the better league. It's them going to Union that we need to try and stop.

Some excellent ponts there.
I think local should be on more like 80% counting on the salary cap. With ten locals that's an equivaqlent of 120% of X thousand pounds.
I love the grand final but the hub cap does look inferior.
The 'Can't go to the video ref for a forward pass' rule is stupid. Go to the VR and if it's a pass like the Leeds' one against Sai nts , then rule it forward. If it's not certain, then give benefit of the doubt. I just wonder about the intelligence of Stuart Cumming sometimes. Game after game we see forward passes when watching it on TV. We are all 100% certain and yet it can't go to the video ref. Why? Oh yes, it's an exception. Why oh why?

Leave our NRC alone!! It's one of the few RFL events that has shown a pretty consistent growth.
