| It looks like the pubs will be hammered in Cariff on the Magic Weekend, more so on the Saturday....
On top of the 4 fixtures being played on the Saturday we have...
Five Nations: Saturday 12th February - Scotland v Wales - 5pm
Football: Saturday 12th February - Cardiff v Shorpe - 3pm
Not really great planning from the RFL i think!

| I suppose the idea is that it shouldn't really affect us - as RL Fans, we should be packing the stadium out and watching the games, rather than being in the pub when the matches are on.
Similarly, if Cardiff City are playing, one presumes their supporters will be at their stadium.
In any case, a good, busy, lively, sporting atmosphere before and after the games should enhance the experience, not spoil it.
If RL supporters want the host city to themselves, then maybe a better solution would be to stage the magic weekend in St Helens or Warrington rather than a capital city.

| I'd just been looking at Six Nations fixtures a moment ago as I gathered from BBC's stepping up of Union headlines that it must be starting pretty soon. Hadn't clocked til then that we'd be 'clashing' with that, although obviously on a weekend that Wales are playing away.
Don't know where Cardiff City's new stadium is in relation to the city centre? I doubt Shorpe will take masses of their own for that trip, though. Assuming we're allowed to pass in and out of the Stadium, think we'll get there around midday, take in the Wolfs v Hudds game, pop back out into the city centre for food and a couple of drinks and then go back in to catch some of Cas v Wakey before the main event.
Other than the idea that it'll be bloody freezing, I'm fairly looking forward to it as a day out.

The point is to how busy the city will be on the Saturday, and more importantly will the bars and pubs have restrictions on for football fans, which most major cities do, infact towns to also, you only have to be in Wigan on match day to see door staff on all pubs in the town centre.
Im fairly sure that the RFL are not neive enough to expect supporters attending the 7pm kick off to take there seat in the Stadium at 1130am.

| The weekend after would have been better. No six nations games, and the football team away. It would have been nice then to attract some locals who might be interested in trying RL. Alas that ain't gonna happen.

Excellent point. It is th wrong weekend for many reasons, all as the RFL want this as the opening fixture.

| Been to both Magic weekends and the Challenge cup final in Cardiff but this is the first year we're staying over. What are the pubs like after the game in terms of you wearing colours?
Looking to have a good night out Saturday but don't want it ruined by not being able to get in anywhere if i've got my wigan shirt on.

The last time i stayed over in Cardiff the pubs where ok with colours. Not sure with it being a day when Cardiff City are at home it will be the same.

| Hope there isn't any trouble with the City fans, they have a pretty poor reputation!

| I went to all the Challenge Cup finals held at the Millennium and stopped in Cardiff . The only time I saw what could have been a problem was in 2004 and it was in the Prince of Wales (Wetherspoons) in the centre of Cardiff. The football fans were trying to provoke trouble but the rugby fans just ignored it and carried on drinking and having a laugh. What did disappoint me was that the bouncers did nothing to try to stop the Cardiff fans from inciting trouble and on another day it could have been a problem.
