| Dont post very often but just seen on the wigan board that some fans think that SL is poor this season cos they have managed to finish 6th. They've been average this season and finished in an average postion (just above half way). Why does that make the rest of us poor?

| Why not reply to the post on that thread?
And the reason some people are saying this is because we have been very poor this season yet have still finished comfortably in the play offs and got a home draw.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

Wigan could of won 3 more games and finished second in the table and yet for most of this season we have been poor, a team like us this season being 3 games away from second shows how poor the league is.

| Here we go.....
Hudds have had their best ever year (which doesn’t say much about their insignificant club imo) so this must mean that SL has improved this season.
The facts are there for everyone to see……..
The top two teams are weaker than last season
Teams like Warrington, Cas, Wakey, Catalan and Hull KR have played well in parts but i'm sure neither set of fans are truly happy with how their season has gone. Warrington, Cas and Catalan in particular haven’t lived up or delivered on their undoubted talent they have in their squads.
Wigan, Hull FC, Quins and Bradford have been awful this season but yet Bradford just missed out on the top eight and Wigan finished comfortably in there???
Celtic have been one of the worst teams I’ve ever watched in SL. Fair play to Salford they have done what’s expected and could have a good future but Celtic haven’t shown me anything to suggest they will be a success.
Who is gonna be the MOS this season? Who has delivered the kind of performances week in week out that players such as Cunningham, Long, Radders, Sculthorpe, Vainikolo, Farrell, Lam, Barrett have in previous seasons?
I’m sorry but this season has been one of the poorest I’ve seen.

| Four words...
[sizeBRING BACK THE BIFF![/size
That's why I love watching Leeds Saints matches. There's real passion and although neither set of players like the other, there's a great respect on show.
The rest of SL is just pretty boring to be honest. I think I will have watched the least amount of games on Sky this year than in any previous SL season, because I'm just not bothered anymore.

Que the 2 goons Eddie & Stevo, "It just goes to show the salary cap is working". I'm with you the quality of rugby and the season as a whole has been gash.
I bet the Aussie's are 5h1ting themselves.

| Worst season I have ever seen. I hope the play-offs makes me change my mind.
I think the reason I am disapointed is...
A) Wigan have been awful most of the time really....
B) The world cup was really good IMO I loved the rugby on show other than England and I suppose I wanted quality like this in super league, but no chance of that.
C) Most teams have been worse this season than last!
D) The refs have been terrible and spoiled games at times!
E) there have been less exciting games.
F) There have not been enough stand out players.
G) All of these things have taken away the enjoyment of gameday and the atmosphere has been poor due to poor rugby.

| Theres a reason why many of the Superleague games on TV down here get shafted to a 1am time slot. Ive seen quite alot of the games, and the quality has been poor, especially compared to the standards of the NRL.

That's a massive point.
I think it comes down to the super stars that you have. Name one player in super league that has regulallry broken the line, or that is exciting to watch.
Name one player who is Super League's Slater, Inglis, Folau or Hayne.
We have no "freaks" as they are often called. We went to Aus in the summer and watched a number of games, the standard is a million miles higher than the Super League.
The Super League has, this year, been a contradiction in terms.

| Well for starters, look at the options at fullback for Aus and then look at ours. I have pretty much no confidence in England beating Aus this year. I have no idea why im bothering heading home to watch the 4 nations. There is so much quality down here yet very limited back in England. I cant think of any England player that could make the Aus team.
We struggle to pick a decent 17, Aus struggle to get down to a squad of 17

| Must admit this season has been disappointing, used to go to every game home and away year in year out, but this year been to all home games cause of the Season Tickess, all CC games and about 2 away games, its just not worth all the money when you dont know if your gonna get an 'ársed' performance from the team. Has improved abit though since some of the younger players have come through.

you could paraphrase what you've said into...wigan are poor therefore superleague is poor! we've (the wire) have had a pretty up and down season, won the cup, didn't make the play offs. but briers' drop goal in the QF's along with a few matches where warrington have played to their potential make me view this season differntly than you. i';m not gonna say it..well yes i am.. your arrogant belief that the season is reflected in how well or not wigan play is sad and twenty years out of date.
hull kr, huddersfield and cas have had good seasons and are knocking on the door so to speak, yes i'm as biased as you are but morley and carvell have stood out this season as has tomkins for you to name a few, there are more.. get over yourself and stop moaning!

Some people's level of unhappiness is coming from the season over all, Wigan's performance overall, and some of the other teams overall. There have been a few matches were Wigan have played fantastically (e.g. Leeds at home). How is it possibly twenty years out of date to feel a lack of satisfaction with the SL product on offer? It's actually a really modern attitude to expect more and more, and continuous development and improvement.
It's also compounded by the fact that the NRL this year has shown that continued development and improvement, were they took an already great product, and made it even better (e.g. the two ref system and cleaning up the PTB)

You say our attitude is out of date, yet actually so is yours.
Everything's going well at Warrington, to all must be right in the British RL garden? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what you're saying?
We said the same when all was going well at our club. We were wrong then, and you are wrong now.
There's a bigger picture which can only really be measured by the financial health of the game, which is dire, by the strength of its weakest links, which is equally dire (so dire in fact that this will eventually prevent the RFL enforcing its SL criteria, because if/when Saints, Salford, Cas, Wakey etc actually fail to deliver their new stadia, can you really see them all being chucked out?), and by its international status, which is monumentally dire - even as far as our RL cousins are concerned we are a complete joke.
Sky may have some better balanced matches to screen, but thus far SL has not strengthened the game sufficiently to ensure its long-term survival as a pro sport.
