Play up, Wigan
GO THE FACKIN KIWIS: |
|
| The whole league has dumbed down. Every team has the same tactics and style of play, with very little room for flair. It's all about percentages.
The odd ref's decision, here or there, changes a result. The odd mistake, here or there, changes the result.
May be a level league, but it's boring as hell. An average team that defends well and respects the ball with workmanlike players could easily win Super League this year.
Joy of joys... Doesn't float my boat
Anyone else feel the same?

Certainly. I could happily walk away from RL at the moment.

| It's dull dull dull isn't it at the moment with very few players that get you on the edge of your seat and make you think something is going to happen.
Worst period for Rugby League i've seen in 20 years of watching the sport.

| Would have been better timed if we had just won But I know what you're saying.
I watched some highlights of games from the earlier years of SL the other night and it seemed so much more exciting (these were games not involving Wigan btw).
The game is missing some genuine star players IMO.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

| I am 17 and I would rather watch old videos of great Wigan players than the boring stuff we have now. I find myself going to games just for the atmosphere now.

| TBH the game tonight reminded me of tight games played at Wilderspool in the late Eighties, the only difference was we had a decent team and coach back then..

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Yes. teams are scared of playing rugby because of the consequences of one mistake.
Add to that refs dissallowing perfecty good tries due to obstruction??????? when it is clearly not and them going to the screen for every try exept when its against wigan. They should make the salary cap half of what you earn and not cap it at 1.6million. If Wigan made 6 Milion they could only spend the same as Huddersfield who were making 3.6 million.
The salary cap was put inplace to stop clubs going bust, that works but now it is to dillute the comp and through that players and teams aren't getting any better.
For Instance Ben Westwood 5 years ago was centre for Whitehaven and now he is in the 'Elite England Squad'. Ha ha ha Ben Westwood is crap!!!!!!!! Same with Fa'asavalu, no skill whatsover he is just muscle and that aint enough to beat the aussies.
If the salary cap only allowed the clubs to spend half of what they eraned you would get better teams e'g Wigan,St Helens, Leeds, Warrington. Hull Kr and Hull FC etc and if you have a good side with superstars in and you add to that young british players they will improve ten fold rather put them in an average team in an average league where anyone can beat anyone because the temas in the league are made up of average steady percentage based teams who play boring rugby.
They say teams can blood youngsters with the relegation being scrapped but if a team in the league say salford weren't making much money due to them having a small fan base and not making enough money to get the right players they would be bottom of the league and you could blood the youngsters against them as well as challenge cup games.
Change the salary cap so teams can spend half of what they earn and that is it because clubs aren't getting rewarded for making profits etc.
Communism at its finest!!!!!

| I agree, the game has been become less exciting. Why have it so that everyone, forwards and backs runs the ball in, thats the job of the props. Plus there are no players with flair or skill that can turn a game around by making a break or putting somebody into a gap. People need to play to their postition and not have everybody doing the same thing. All thats going to happen is the fans will become dissolusioned and will stop turning up to the games.

| bert and ernie did their usual routine of 'isnt SL great?' 'what absolute quality rugby league!', 'outstanding passage of play!'
short memories. they seem to have forgotten all about the world cup.
the mid season walloping we'll give france will only fan the flames.
god help us when the aussies and kiwis come over

| Was thinking the same myself the other day. There is no-one in this league that stands out, all players of the same ability...look at the past 3 MOS winners: Wellens, Roby and Graham, hardly players who set the world on fire IMO and when you compare them to players in the NRL like Inglis, Folau, Lockyer, Thurston, Slater, Barrett, Cameron Smith...the list is endless and no one in SL can even be compared to these men.
No one in SL is standing out this year either for MOS and its not making entertaining Rugby for neutrals...I know quite alot of people who used to be mad on rugby league, for other clubs aswell a few years ago, but now i would be surprised if they could name a SL player. Its just not appealing anymore IMO unless your a die hard.
