Tigers Masterclass Tames the WarriorsDaryl Powell's Castleford Tigers are emerging as the real thing in 2017. By far the best attack, averaging over forty per game, and the second best defence fully justify their table topping start to the season. But round eight sent them to the DW Stadium to take on a Wigan Warriors side who were still smarting after a defeat against Leeds last weekend, which saw them drop out of the top four.
The Warriors needed the win to get back into the top four but a victory for the Tigers would lift them two points clear at the top of the table.
With Wigan and Castleford currently joint favourites to lift the 2017 this was the game of the round.

| "Tigers Masterclass" are they having a laugh?
They didn't complete a set for over 10 mins.
Better team yes, masterclass, er some way off.

Agree with outplayed and outscored but that doesn't mean it's a masterclass. Cas did what they needed to win but I'm sure DP won't be classing at as a masterclass with the number of handling errors and incomplete sets.
More of a ground out win than a masterclass.

Sore losers, people have said Wigan were out played and out scored. To say it was a master class is a bit over the top. I've seen Cas play far better this year, eg master class against Leeds. We got beat by the better side on the night but if the "classy cas" turned up last night they would have put a bigger score on our 2nd team.
As Warrington and Huddersfield have found out in the past, if your happy being top in April and you will prob will be top most for the season IMO, you can get the open top bus ready and DVD's out in the club shop. The acid test will be if the Classy Cas and the master classes turn up when it matters at the business end of the season.

| It wasn't a masterclass but a solid performance against a weakened Wigan team who are going through the mill at bit with injuries (as we did last season) Cas fans are under no illusion that it means diddly squat but it's nice to be challenging the top end of the leagues perennial big boys.
However you can only beat what is put in front of you.
We can't wait for the return fixture and hopefully we'll do battle again later in the year. You get your first choice back and normal service will resume and probably a winning game streak
Solid yes
Masterclass definitely not
See you on the 29th

| After the first 10 minutes our set completion was probably 90% for the rest of the game. Plus we missed minimal tackles. How many sides go to Wigan and win by 17 points ? We've put 66 on leeds 50 odd on hudds and 40 odd on Leigh Catalan, nilled widnes but Powell did say last night was probably our best display and if powell says that who am I to argue ? I know you had injuries but you are always tough especially at home, see the hull game for an example.

| Sure Cas won with 17 points. No not many teams win at Wigan with 17 points. Not many teams have the luxury of playing Wigan when there are 8 of the first 17 missing.
Powell said it was a ground out win. Powell is right.
A ground out win yes, a masterclass no.
A Masterclass is what Warrington did to Brisbane. That WAS a masterclass.
Wigan had a great win v Cronulla but that wasn't a masterclass.

Strange that isn't it. I always find it odd that as I Wigan fan I look at and analyse the performance of the team I support. As for the first 'reamers' as you put it missing take Hardaker, Minnikin, Shenton, Webster, Eden, McShane, McMeekin & Milner out of the Cas team how would they have done?

Obviously it's a difficult question to answer. However, the Cas team was beset by injuries last season, so I understand what you're going through.
What I can say is this. We played Wigan in the Super 8s and won 36-22. Missing from our team that day were:
2. Monaghan; 3. Webster; 4. Shenton (c); 6. Roberts; 8. Lynch; 12. McMeeken; 13. Massey. These are 7 players who would have walked into the team last season if they were fit. We had so many injuries (also including Jy Hitchcox & Paddy Flynn) we had Rocky Hampshire playing on the wing!

All you parents out there listen up. This is what happens when you take your kids on holiday during term time.

Beat you at home in the super 8's last year with over ten out, $hit excuse for 'the biggest club in the world'
