| He really wasn't that bad IMO. Got bored of the people sat behind me screaming pass EVERY time he got the ball, even after he passed to Charnley who lost the ball in the tackle, they still gave Joel grief for not passing

| Class centre, he causes chaos. He is still learning the position all the time.

| He is a very strong runner at centre but i would like to see him release his winger more. It does seem that he has a tendancy to only pass when he is absolutely certain he will not score himself so it usually leaves his winger with no real room to work. Still early doors for him there though and there is time for him to learn.

| I think he is looking class already at centre, dont forget he's only played a few games there. Imagine what he'll be like after a few games under his belt then even more so after a full pre season learning the tricks. He is going to be the best centre we've produced in a long time. Him and Charnley will be an awesome double act on that side in the future.

| I didnt think his decision making was too bad tbh. Often when he collected it he was running very wide and passing the ball out to Charnley would have resulted in him being dumped in to touch, and he did try and bring him back on the inside a few times. Joel is still learning the position but has been very impressive since his switch there and after 10 or so more games there we are going to have a very destructive centre on our hands which also eases the pressure of losing a class centre in MG.

| Some poor options today but he's such a threat there and long term will just get better and better. I've said before he's bigger and faster then the vast majority of centres and once he learns the finer details of the position he'll be very good.
We should get him doing some one on one work with Carmont in training who doesn't have the physical tools that Joel has but he is such a clever player.

That about sums it up - he needs to learn how to draw the man then offload, rather than running diagonally for the cornerflag, cutting off Charnley. It HAS worked before because he's had the skill to pop the ball back inside for Charnley, but it's not a high percentage play.
That say, his size, skill and pace combination causes havoc to the other team. I'd definitely keep him at centre.

Agree with that, he's the potential to be in the Keith Senior mould, namely large, mobile, good tackler and not afraid to crack some heads when needed. I just hope we don't sign a Ryan Bailey type prop to hide behind him

| I believe that Joel will be a class centre some day but it will take some work,he needs to learn the art of drawing in the winger to leave enough space for Charnley.
His first movement when he receive's the ball should be straight towards the centre and just before contact he should step outside to try and draw the opposition winger in freeing up some space for Charnley,at the moment when gets the ball his first thought is to try and score himself by just going straight for the corner,he needs to watch some dvd's of last season and see just how Gleeson plays.

Spot on. At the minute he is running Charnley out so Charnley has to come on the inside. He just needs to learn to run straight and draw his man as you say so that he can pass to Charnley with space on the outside.
Only a small criticism though, he is playing well there and this is an improvement in his game that will come the more he plays there. I'm sure it's not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.

Yeah totally agree, needs to straighten up when the overlap isn't there. But in fairness Charnley could also go back inside, like he did for the score against Saints last month. I like Joel at Centre though, I think it's working well and I reckon he can become a strong and classy player there. Just needs patience, it's a brand new position for him. He's been here since 2003 and has certainly never played that much at centre apart from bit parts in recent times. Overall though him and his winger are getting over the whitewash, which wasn't really happenign with Marsh and Goulding so.....
