| They are proposing to remove corner flags meaning the corner post no longer being included in the definition of the field of play.
The corner post never seems to be erect anyway so it probably won't make much difference, although it suits the NRL more than Super League because they have a video ref at every game.

| As if the touch judges would spot it anyway. They're useless.

| The only problem I can see there being is judging whether a bouncing ball has either gone into touch, or touch in goal.

| Get em gone. Like you say Bilko there never stood up straight anyway. If a players talented/brave enough to launch themselves into the air and not come in contact with the whitewash whilst doing so they deserve a try.
One day a try may be scored that'll win a final but will be forever contentious because the corner flag wasn't straight, and a debate will rage on whether he would have touched it or not.

| I think it creates more tries as it will be easier to dive in at the corner with your whole body out of play in the air.

Yeah, apart from that. I see no problems.

| The impression I got is that the flags might physically remain in place, but if you hit the flag whilst diving for a try you're still considered to be in the field of play, a little like how it operates in football. Could be wrong, mind.

| That's my understanding of it too Matt.
But for me, they need to stop fannying about with the little things like this.
There's nothing wrong with a defender being able to slam you in to the posts to stop you scoring IMO.

Would make for a better spectacle if defenders were able to pull them out of the ground and beat the opposition with them though! Think I've just invented a whole new sport...Ultimate Rugby!

It's an object outside of play, if you touch it then you're out of play. I never really saw a point in them though, they're a bitch to get in the ground too when it's hard. In fact I like this because we'll probably see more crazy diving tries in the corner. Having said that, do we really need to make it even easier for wingers to score tries?
