| I'd be tempted, if the laws allow, to keep him on in some capacity. He's a tremendous talent and it would be a shame for RL to loose that talent. If he's employed by the club it'll enable Wigan to keep an eye on him and it'll probably do him good feeling wanted rather than just cast aside.
I'd also make sure he does some sort of community work involving drugs but I think I'm correct in saying that he can't represent Wigan RL anymore so that would have to be done independently of the club.
When his 2 years is up, we can assess his fitness and his mental state and go from there. I'm sure there'll be a queue of clubs hanging around Andy Clarke in 2 years time.
Of course I don't know the circumstances surrounding Hocks previous record with the club, if indeed there is one, but if he's had warnings about his conduct and behaviour before then we should probably wash our hands of him.

| Yep keep him involved. Loyalty works both ways and if they intend to re-sign him in 2 years, what's the point of pushing him out now?

| IIRC, the ban would also prevent him from training with the club.
And of course, it would be wasted cap space

| What would we have him do?
Do people genuinely think he has got the nous to learn from this experience?
I'm not convinced
Personally I want him away from the club for as long as his ban runs - then we can re-evaluate when he has done his time.

| I can't see what good it would do keeping him at the club not like he can do anything anyway

| Yes on a low wage if the rules allow. Whatever he does off the pitch he's still a class player who will hopefully be looking to make amends. Question is whether he'd take a low salary with us for two years or just get a proper job in that time then have his pick of clubs when he returns, he doesn't really need us.

Well I believe it's a toss up between that and being a Brain Surgeon.

| Sadly in our current circumstances and with the current lack of good quality British players i would say retain his services in some capacity, maybe working supervised of course within the Community department, while also giving him 2 years of major bulking and Prop conditioning works.
I do not like the fact we are not in a position from a professional sporting point of view to allow him to walk away from the club but i sadly think with the current poor standards we have in SL a player like Hock must be retained and allowed to continue his career with Wigan once his ban is up.

| I am not sure what good Hock hanging around the club would do.
Having a banned player wandering around the place doesn't strike me as a good idea for him (very frustrating I would think) or the club.
He obviously can't play or train with the club and if wants the chance to come back in two years he must train somewhere else so that will take some of his time.
He may need to get a job that pays more then Wigan can offer doing community work even if his suited to that sort of job.
If the club want to remain in contact and check on progress while he goes through whatever rehabilitation program he ends up on, fair enough but I think an arms length approach is all he can expect and will also be what is best for the club.

I'd have to agree Dave, if you owned the club there is no way you would want a player who has been banned by UK Sport anywhere near you club, especially the lads coming through the academy.
You have to get Hock out of your system, I doubt he'll ever play or be involved at Wigan again.
