| I’m fed up of him already. If he’s not going to come, just say so but it seems like he’s hedging his bets for the Wales job and using us as insurance. Don’t understand why you’d do all the press conferences and presumably sign a contract if you’re going to mug us off.

| Sadly, I'm not going to wait around for Edwards to announce that he's not coming before I offer an apology to The Enforcer.
I'll make my apology now.
Because whether Edwards comes or not, this stuff is unacceptable.
To me, repeatedly casting doubt on his appointment for 2020 can't serve any purpose other than to prepare the ground for a 'thanks but no thanks' moment.
It's quite clear that Lammy isn't a long-term solution at Wigan, so Edwards' one reasonable reason for thinking that he might not be joining as head-coach in 2020 is gone. And yet, we're still getting ridiculous comments like these.
Either Edwards has never grown up, which is a possibility given that he's spent his sporting life surrounded by yes-men, and he's playing some kind of childish game, or he's leaving himself open for better offers.
Either way, the Wigan fans deserve a lot better than this from the man who allegedly wants to coach their team. I reckon we need some kind of confirmation from him, one way or the other, and right now, not at his personal convenience - so the club management can plan properly for the future.

I don't think that starting to look at potential other coaches is a bad idea.
No one is bigger than Wigan Warriors, and we shouldn't be dancing along to Shaun Edwards' bizarre tune when the future of our club might be at stake.

| I’ve got no issues with this interview at all. He clearly says he’s agreed to come to Wigan and says he sees a potential return to RU at some point in the future. He refers to the likes of Alex Ferguson coaching into his 70s etc and hopes to continue in coaching to a good age.
He talks about how much Wigan means to the fans and I see nothing disrespectful about any of it. Mountains being made from mole hills and I’m sure he’ll honour his contract with Wigan.

I take no delight in you writing that But it takes a real man to do what you just did.
The whole thing was crazy from the start IMO. The fact that Lenegan himself actually muddied the waters further told me that something was wrong.
Maybe Edwards will still come but you are right, he should not be saying things like this. He hardly sounds excited about it does he when he is already thinking of going back to Union a YEAR or TWO later? Lenegan should not be muddying the waters further either.

Surely it's black and white. Has he signed or not?

| A man with a three year deal talking about doing ‘a year or two’ is also very strange. I’ve made no secret of the fact I never liked this set up and it’s causing even more issues then I envisaged in the first place. Even at its best things would always be up in the air under this arrangement but when you’ve got next years coach already casting doubt on the move it just adds to the state of limbo.
Jeez we need a win on Sunday to get some positive feeling back. It’s all a bit depressing at the minute.

Has he actually signed anything legally binding? Not that contracts are worth much these days, especially if a rich RU club wanted to buy him out of his Wigan contract (if he really did sign one)?

Hasn't IL got previous on this...an attempt on safeguarding season ticket stating Bateman is signed to return after Australia which appears rubbished by him.

If he's not signed he shouldn't have been paraded in front of the media and plastered all over the website as the coach from 2020.
I would expect there's a middle ground, probably in Edwards favour; an opt out clause. Only speculating of course.
If Edwards isn't a done deal with ink well dried on his contract, IL has some front pulling this over the fans, an out and out disgrace.

Same could be said about John Batemans 'return'. Someone here is being increasingly disrespectful to the fans and people of Wigan. Either IL or Edwards with his choice of language and wording in interviews etc.

| Whether there's a contract or not, it always seems to be the case that people can wriggle out of it. For example, all the talk today is when George Williams will leave and where he'll go - with no-one attaching significance to the fact that he's contracted to Wigan for another two years.
It's an absolute choker, because it always seems to be British RL who get the s**t end of the stick when it comes to this sort of thing.
I've no doubt that IL has signed Edwards to a contract. But if Edwards genuinely wants out, what else can they do other than find a way to make it happen? You can't have a coach who doesn't want to be here.
It's Edwards I'm mainly annoyed with, because even if he has changed his mind, he should NOT be giving newspaper interviews like this. It shows a cavalier attitude, which makes the whole sport, but Wigan RL in particular, look pathetically unimportant.
