| Shocking.
And even more shocking is that under the RFL's disciplinary procedure it has been charged as an offence normally worthy of a 2-3 match ban.
The rules and procedures need a massive overhaul, the disciplinary system is a joke. Whether it's the ridiculously lenient treatment of Leeds players or anomalies like this, the whole system is in disrepute.
Mind you, this is all part of a disturbing picture - whether it's an oversight like the omission of Manu from the Exiles squad list, referees who can't count and who send the wrong player off or the failure of the RFL and its licensing process and the salary cap to ensure the financial stability of SL clubs - you really do have to ask whether the RFL is "fit for purpose".

| Its the worst challenge since Cassidy did Morley in 1998, absoulutely disgusting, the worst bit is that after he does it he looks back at the Fev player with a smug face. Absoulute coward of the highest order. 6 games minimum, if I remember correctly Cassidy got 8.

| The 'English' 'Man of Steel' repays the game in a way that no-one will ever forget.
They, in turn, repay that by giving him the minimum punishment.
Lads like Hock, who've never done anything as bad as that, must wonder what they did wrong in a former life.

| What really irritates me is the face he pulls after the hit, he must know he's smashed his jaw in yet he turns around with a self contented face. Do we really want this player representing our country?

| From what I've read Ropati is going to struggle for income as his work permit restricts him to playing rugby and the way his contract work means he is going to earn little or no income for the next few months. If I was him I'd take out a private prosecution again Chase or Cas for loss of earnings and damages.

But wouldnt that mean that a court would have to prove intent and it was a malicious act, which would then mean Chase is guilty of assault. I think it was a bad tackle but not for the courts to get involved with otherwise it would be happening everyweek in amateur rugby you would hope that as a professional sports player he would ensure he is covered to play and so will be covered

Surely the Sports Insurance these guys take out would provide him with a good whack. Might look at what i would get off my policy if i got an injury like this.
Not taking away from what was a shocking 'tackle' by the way.

I'm not a legal expert by any means but if Ropati did win his case for loss of earnings against Chase would it not open the flood gates for claims of a similar nature?

| When I initially saw the challenge at full speed it didnt look that bad, when I saw Ropati on the sidelines bleeding from the mouth I knew straight away it wouldnt have been a legal tackle. What a scumbag. Hes lost the respect of everyone in NZ and hes quickly losing the respect of everyone over here too.
So glad we didnt sign him, he would have been an absolute failure at Wigan.

probably....but it might also open the floodgates of players stopping going out to injure opponents like this little coward.
disgusting...should be banned from representing England for a couple of years as well, to send out a message to thugs masquerading as rugby players

I agree completely, I've seen the image of his broken jaw and it's shocking. When walking onto a rugby field you shouldn't have to expect that sort of thuggery.
