All the coaching staff deserve some reward for their great efforts but 7 years is a heck of a long time.Don't think I've ever heard of such long contracts. Maybe the NRL have been circling?

I'm made up with this.
Long term stability, creates long-term success imo. All the great managers do 10 + years at a club and that's across most sports too.
I'll also add that there's very few things left for Peet to do. A sign of a great coach is how they rebuild sides and create new stars. If he can do that here, then he'll have done something very, very special. Something as well, that not many SL coaches get to do.

7 years is unique.
Right now I wouldn't swap Peet O'Loughlin or Leuluai for anyone but a lot can change in 7 years.

Didn't Brodie Croft have a 7 year deal with Salford about 18 months ago.
Now with Leeds, with a good bit of dosh going the other way.
Not drawing conclusions - as the coaches do have a long association with Wigan - but interesting point nevertheless.

Craig Bellamy is in his 22nd year coaching Melbourne. So stability does work.
Peet is only 39. He could go down as one of our longest serving coaches our club has had

Crazy isn’t it. Trent Robinson in his 12th at the Roosters too.
I love the ideal of stability at head coach.
Different sport obviously but the Pittsburgh Steelers have had only 3 head coaches since 1969 and have been a successful team in those years. |

Obviously a bit chicken and egg, but can anyone name a coach who was at a club for a long time, who isn't regarded as a great?
Bennett did 20 years at Brisbane. Bellamy as others have pointed out. Clearly (despite that one year away) has been at Penrith since 2012. Fergie, Klopp, Wenger, Pep etc in footy.
I really hope Peet does 20 years here and is regarded as our greatest ever coach. |
