In the best interest of players and club.
The Challenge Cup fixtures have been released and many will see that we are not taking part this year.
For those that remember last year, we drew a home game against Leigh Centurians. Unfortunately due to the rules of the game we were unable to hold this fixture at home, which would have been fantastic for the club and town.
After a frantic search for an alternative venue in Wigan, we were forced to use the Leigh Sports Village. Due to the ridiculous costs involved, which we had cover and share the profit with the Centurians, we made a total of £63.
Though there have been discussions regarding securing solutions for Amateur Clubs who see themselves in similar situations in the future, there has been nothing put in writing.
Both the Management Committee and the Open Age Coaching Staff, therefore felt it was not in the players or clubs interest to enter the competition this year.
We instead have a number of home friendlies that will support revenue being brought into the club.
We wish all our fellow Amateur Clubs who are competing in the Challenge Cup the very best of luck.

Quite sad to see this happen, but I respect the decision made by St Pats, quite shocking that they weren't allowed to use their own ground.

| Ridiculous. I get that hosting Leigh at Clarington Park is not really practical but if they can't make a decent profit then its a mockery and a sham for the Challenge Cup. I wish Orrell was brought up to safety scratch for this very scenario.

I had just checked to see the full draw listing and noticed Pats weren't in there and was wondering why - tough decision on the committees part I think. £63 ....pffft," owd George" gets more than that in his collecting bucket at every home game

| I just think that it's sad that Whelan couldn't have allowed them to use the DW at a reduced rate to play Leigh. I know he wont let us play any friendlies there, but he surely could have helped out a local amateur team. He prides himself on his involvement in the " Youth Zone" project and good on him for that but here was a chance to help out a local amateur side on what for them should have been a big day for their club with a chance of securing some decent funds to help their development.
Before any one says that it would be setting a precedent and that other local rugby and football teams would expect the same I would say so what? Let them as well. It would probably only be about 1 or 2 games a season at most. I am sure a lot of people on here can remember when Central Park was used for all of the schools finals at all age groups not to mention the Ken Gee Cup final.

I remember playing in a school final at Central Park and at the old Wilderspool ground, it always brings back great memories of playing on the very same pitch as your hero's of the time, they should bring it back. Whilst the kids playing a mini match at half time is great for them as an experience, nothing beats playing on the full size pitch.

| Why could Wigan not help out with Orrell?
I don't know if it was discussed and wasn't an option but it seems odd that Wigan who have benefited from Pats players couldn't have done anything

3076_1671446335.jpg SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

Agree, or Wigan council could have waived the stadium charges for that one game.

DW would have cost far more than LSV

Dave Whelan? As a gesture?
If not due to cost just don't bother with a bar or stadium food and just let the burger vans cater for the latter.
That said if this episode doesn't reinforce what Bilko said about Orrell, what does?
It would be great to be able to offer that for local amateur sides in the CC.

| What was interesting at that game at LSV was the lack of support for Pats on the night compared to the last time the two sides met in about 98, and is probably indicative of how the CC has been run down. The chance for an amateur team to have a pop at a pro team used to have all the club travelling plus mates and family for a good day out, or a riot for one or two clubs who will remain nameless.
Such a shame.

I think the fact that Wigan were at home the same night was part of the problem. If we weren't playing then I probably would have gone to support Pats.

a gesture? He has no affiliation to any RL club but want him to pay for one? If anything Leigh should have done it considering they are a full time club.
