He was the standout player fir us tonight and got us going when we looked a bit shapeless. Deserved MoM.

I prefer him at halfback but he did play probably as much of last night's game at hooker and looked just as good there. I think at the moment the plan of switching him and Powell during the game works very well.

Did you actually WATCH the game? Or did you just listen to the team sheet being read out?
Are you under the impression that GW only played Stand Off last night?

Agree, he was very good last night (in both positions) I wouldn't pigeonhole him into any one of them at the moment. Like all young players he needs time to develop and find their best position and the one that best fits the team.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when Hampshire is fit, will he play at #1 or #6.
Personally I would not want to rush him and George into those pivotal #6 and #7 as a pair too soon. I would hope they could get more games in the next two years with a view to them being in the starting 13 after that. We need to protect these young players for their own good and that of the team for the long term. We need to avoid another Kevin Brown / Luke Robinson scenario.

| He's been excellent these last few weeks and has really bounced back from a little rough patch which is the sign of a good player. His pass selection looks to be improving which is an area for him to work on.
We don't need a new halfback IMO. We've got an embarrassment of riches already at the club and Powell/Williams/Hampshire are all ready for more games IMO.

What a dreadful thing!

| i thought the game changed for us when we changed the front 3 around after 20 mins in the first half. taylor and james came on and GW moved from the halves to 9, and it all started happening.
Williams needs to have the ball in his hands and with Taylor giving us immense yards, we settled down a bit, stopped the silly errors and started to play football.
very good fortnight for GW.

Yes I did actually WATCH the game hence why I was making the observation that Williams is much better in the stand off role than he is at hooker. I am aware that he played both roles last night - when he was playing the stand off role he was 10 x better. His tackling is not good enough to be hooker and his attacking play doesnt suit the positon, but at stand off he absolutely stands out in the very best way - his step is superb and he was a joy to watch.

Taylor changed the game when he came on.
It'd be a travesty for Wigan if he leaves - he's our best Prop by a country mile. Fantastic player.

His tackling isn't good enough? That's one of the strongest parts of his game and an area where he's better than Powell (and Powell's a decent defender too). Williams might not have the aggression of McIlorum (but who does) but defensively he's quite impressive, especially considering his age and the fact that hooker is an unfamiliar position.
As for his attacking play, it's not typically what you'd expect from a hooker but that's only to be expected at this stage. He's more direct than both Powell and McIlorum though and he made a couple of breaks from hooker and got a try from close range from dummy half, which isn't as easy as it looks, McIlorum rarely manages it.

| Well Williams is a natural half back so its no surprise he is better there. He has also done a much better job at hooker than many give him credit for but just lacks a little of the size and strength needed there in defence. He is still just a kid though and with age this will come.

| I saw it completely differently, the combination between Smith and Williams wasn't working at all early on, we looked much better when him and Powell switched. I'd use Powell at 6 with Williams offering a running option off the bench to spell McIlorum.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

| It's the loss of concentration and focus that occasionally let him down that worry me.
He seems probe to the odd unforced error at times. Hopefully as he matures that will come as he is an excellent prospect.
Would like us to sign a quality half to replace Green for 2 years and get Williams out on loan to a SL club next year and have him fighting for a shirt in 2016 and beyond.

| SW said after the match that he switched them during the game, then back again then a further switch too.
He said it was to help them as at 9 they were tackling in the middle and the switching would change it around.
What he's going to do with them once Green and Micky are back who knows.
Mind you, we do seem to have had a long injury list since around Easter.
