| Was on a freebie from work last night so was sat in the Wire end (North stand towards the home end).
In the 44th minute a wire kick goes into touch just in front of us and the end entrance to the concourse. Charnley chases it but see's it out, just at the point of a wire 'fan' returning to his seat through the entrance. He procedes to hurl a torrent of abuse at Charnley who is only a couple of yards from him.
If you look at the replay on the TV you can atually see charnley talking to him (you can't see the bloke though).
Now I'm all for giving the opposition a hard time but this was personal abuse and reminded me of when footballers take a corner and get hurled abuse at.
The bloke made his way back to his seat. A minute later, 3 stewards escorted said fan from the ground and he continued to hurl abuse at them.
Well done the stewards for ejecting the moron. Not what we need in our game.
Another point, the stand was eerily quiet, not just because of the result but all the way through the game. The only noises seemed to be odd outbursts at Myler :S

True. Sometimes our fans are our own worst enemies.

| Intimidation is a part of the home advantage and in some respects you need to 'get at' players but there's a line and some of the stuff ive I've seen at rugby matches and a few years ago at football matches is way beyond what should be accepted.
I've seen a few smoke grenades at games now. Wire, Wigan, Castleford, Widnes, Hull KR. Just put it in the ground rules that if you're caught with or set one off you will receive a lifetime ban in said stadium.
Lastly you rarely get noise from the Prawn Sandwich eaters in the North stand and if the south stand is quiet then you have no chance, the fans are a little preoccupied at the moment.

| I have no problem with fans abusing players as long as it isn't racist. I've given Briers, Long and Martyn plenty over the years.
Unless you're just points scoring against Wire fans.

3076_1671446335.jpg SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

But why should you be able to do it inside a stadium when you can't do it in the street? (unless you want to be arrested)

Sounds like it was the Wire stewards doing the points-scoring, and good on them for it.
Reminds me of a Leeds fan sat close by us during the last Saints v Leeds final at OT. I'm no Saints lover, but the stuff this guy was coming out with was way over the top. It also included standing up, pointing, shouting, screaming, swearing, finger-waving. None of it racist, but no less offensive for that. He soon turned his ire on a bunch of Saints fans nearby - at which point he got turfed out by the stewards who had been covertly watching him.
A complete fool, who was ruining the match for everyone. I doubt a single person in that part of the ground was sorry to see him go.

| Sometimes it can be quite amusing. I remember a Wigan Saints derby at the JJB stadium a few years back and a gang of 3 lads sitting on the front row of the east stand kept shouting Sully (Anthony Sullivan) every time Saints were receiving a kick. They were right next to where he was standing. He never took them on until late in the half when he turned to them to see what they wanted. All three of them did the wan&er sign and shouted AAAAAHHHHH to him. He just burst out laughing and they did and then clapped him.
I've also been stood with Wigan fans who have been apoplectic with rage against certain players from the second they walk onto the pitch without a hint of humour in their rants or tone. Quite uncomfortable at times.

2572.jpg Ah, good taste!
What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

| I agree with Rogues. Why should expect to behave in a stadium in a different way to that in the street ? After all, we expect the players to have a certain amount of discipline and respect for officials. Why should spectators be allowed to be abusive ?
To my mind this is part of the reason that football is such a mess. They happily condone behaviours that would rightly be condoned if it happened elsewhere.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |

| We played London this year, until you go you can't imagine how close you are to the players.
I shouted to the London lads behind the sticks
"We're putting 50 on you today lads" after every try
and
"Scott I'm going to the bar, what'd you want mate, but remember to get a taxi home"
Not particularly funny or offensive and I was slightly inebriated so my creative juices were lacking but it's all part of the fun of the live event surely.

I'm with you. Nick Hornby writes about this in 'Fever Pitch', where he says that football is the only passtime where it is deemed suitable to yell "Gould - you're a w@nker" at the the top of your voice. You wouldn't walk into a book shop pick up a book you don't rate and yell "Hornby - you're a w@nker" at the top of your voice!
It may be understandable to yell at your own team if they aren't playing well - but it certainly doesn't help anyone. As for yelling at the opposition, I was at Leeds when they started booing Sam in the Exiles game and was disgusted. I suppose you can't stop morons being moronic, so well done to the Wire steward.
