To me it's simple. It's too predictable. Over the course of the season teams have worked it out and have planned to deal with it. It's the reason why Sam isn't getting the ball in any sort of space to show what he can so. The structured attack can still work if used in moderation rather than completely relying on it.

What can we do about it? IMO we need a bit of the unexpected, to be a little more maverick. There was the odd glimpse of it tonight for example Greens flat kick to Richards. We need to make the oppositions defence think twice about what we might do. The big one for me is the offload. The only player looked capable of doing a decent offload has only been playing league for half a season - Powell. If you watch the game back tonight Leeds made a huge amount of extra metres from offloads, they also scored 2 tries directly from one.

As soon as the ball is offloaded there is a second phase of attack, often against a defence which isn't set properly, there are extra yards to be made, quick play the balls to be had and sometimes tries to be scored.

I thought our defensive line was far too slow tonight. That allowed Leeds to make ground constantly through the game. Attack wise I do agree that we're predictable but the timing wasn't right. We were a far cry from the team that were blowing teams away early in the season. Our structures work against lower teams but the top teams have worked it out. I think we're done for this year!

Doesn't excuse Green kicking the ball away when a couple of decent passes would have given us a walk in try.

23 - 20 - 4 Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png

Our attack seemed to focus on one up runs, like we were looking for a forwards battle. Nothing like the expansive play earlier in the season. Maybe a deliberate tactic to get us battle hardened before the playoffs, I don't know?

We desperately need some fluidity in attack and get back to doing the plays that work.

Wigan never had the field position or forward momentum to play expansively.

The point i made, although we can play much better is the attack is too one dimensional. When it works it's great but the top teams have worked it out. We need more variety. Introducing an off load game would help us immensely. Couple that with the structure and the odd maverick move like green's kick tonight and we'll be much more of a threat.

The top teams worked it out half way through the season. Wane has obviously never realised it.

I agree we need more variety and we saw it last week v Hull. Our younger players have obviously not been brainwashed into thinking they have to play one way. Hampshire's kick to right corner which didn't come off got the crowd up on its feet not just because it was a potential score but because it was different! We tried more things v Hull than we have done all season.

I honestly don't think it's that our attack has been sussed by other teams, we haven't been doing the plays that have been so effective over the last 4 seasons in the past few months. So many times we look set to put a play on and it goes short to a forward. Our halves, particularly Green, seem unable to play what's in front of them and choose the wrong options time and time again. We tried one play that was a bit different last night when Thornley looped in and joined the attack (something we did with George and Joel a few times under Madge) and then this opportunity was bombed, after that we didn't see a set attacking play.
