| There's been much talk about Roberts on team selection threads but I'm interested to find out what the majority think. If fit should he get a run of games at fullback, allowing sam back to 6? Should he be stuck on the wing to "build confidence". Should he be left in the under 20s or even not play again?
Personally I'd like to see him given a run of games at fullback, he returned the ball well in the Hudds game but struggled with the high ball, IMO due to the fact that Brough is a quality kicker (he isn't the only one in our team to struggle with the high ball). Although this will spark the "Where should Sam play?" debate.

| I'd go with fullback. Deacon will be gone next season so Sam can move to the halves with Finch and Leuluai to 9. He doesn't do much for me on the wing, putting him in the 20's is completely pointless and I wouldn't get rid just yet.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Last season proved that when fit his best position is FB. At the start of least season he was even better than Sam and Sam is even better at 6.

Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

| In an ideal world he should fight it out at training (not literally) with the other wingers we have in the squad. Once he's then impressed enough during training he should be given a shot on the wing. Where hopefully he'll get up to speed and create some form for himself, and then he should be given an opportunity at FB. It's about earning the right to play and progressing into more and more pivotal positions as he improves IMO.
The problem is he's given chances recently on the wing and lucked lackluster and uninterested, missing tackles left, right and . And rightfully so he's lost his spot to the likes of Charnley.

| Full back for me without any doubt, he needs a run of games though to find some form, which he is not getting.

| He should play whenever he deserves to play, based on his own performances or someone in the first team not doing what is required of them.
We can't really just stick him at fullback and hope for the best when the team already seems to be misfiring. He hasn't earned his place on the wing or at fullback so far and that's why he isn't getting a chance. Playing him anyway in the hope that he improves is just the same as picking on reputation rather than form. He has to work his way back into the first team and then he has to work hard to nail down his place in the first team by playing well. If he can't put in good enough performances then it's his own failing. If he can put in good enough performances then because he is comfortable in both positions he'll play whichever position is necessary. If Sam is playing well at fullback he'll be on the wing. If our halves are misfiring and Sam is wanted in the halves or if Sam isn't playing very well then Roberts will be at fullback.
It's all about what is best for the team at that time.

| Why on earth would MM let Paul Deacon play on this season, sign Brett Finch and give Sam Tomkins the number 1 jersey, if he wanted to play him at 6 or 7????
All these arguments saying that Amos Roberts should play full back are irrelevant. Sam is our full back. We will only require someone else to play full back if Sam gets injured.
Half backs in pecking order this season (no. of appearances at 6 or 7 in brackets):
Thomas Leuluai (9 apps)
Paul Deacon (5 apps)
Brett Finch (2 apps + 1 sub)
Sean O'Loughlin (2 apps)
Joe Mellor (1 non-playing sub)
Sam Tomkins (0 apps)
As you can see, Sam is our 6th choice half back this season.

Or if he loses form or is required in the halfbacks (which at the moment I believe he is with Finch misfiring).

| Now that Paaaaat is back Roberts needs to play at FB or be dropped from the side.
We need Sam at 6.

| Get rid. He was a top player 5 years ago who gave us a wonderful but brief cameo for 2 months in 2010. He is now over 30 and it is time to move on.

Although I see your point I'd argue that sam is 1st choice fullback rather than 6th choice half back. IMO he's the most talented halfback at the club, it just so happens that he is the best fullback too (at the moment in time anyway).

| Maguire obviously prefers Sam at FB and if fit Deacon and Finch in the halves. If Roberts is going to play it will be on the wing.
However, in my opinion (as a fan like the rest of us knowing virtually nothing about RL in comparison to a coach) i'd like to see him given a run at full back, moving Sam back to 6. It's a bit of a catch 22 really, needs a run in the team in his best position but not playing well enough to warrant a run in the team.

| An in form Roberts at full back every time for me. I have yet to see any real form from him on the wing but he was sensational at full back before his injury.

| Quick question for those who watch the reserves. What position has he been playing there?
i ask because if/when he comes back into the first team it would be sensible to pick him in the postion he has been playing the previous week.
