| From the official website:
"Wigan Warriors can today confirm that young full back Josh Veivers and centre Stefan Marsh (pictured) have joined Championship Club, Whitehaven , on a Dual Registration deal.
Players are eligible for Dual Registration only with Championship and Championship One Clubs and only if they are outside the top 20 players (financially) of the Super League club's playing squad.
The deal means that the pair can play for both the Warriors and Whitehaven at any time throughout the Season other than Challenge Cup games, providing both players with an opportunity to play First Team Rugby League against senior players in a very competitive Championship side and gain higher-level match experience.
Speaking about the Dual Registration moves, Head Coach Michael Maguire said,
"The deal is good for the individual players, for the Wigan Club and for Whitehaven. The Dual Registrations mean either Josh or Stefan can return intermittently to play for Wigan at any time based upon form or injuries and, the rest of the time, get rugby experience with Whitehaven.""

| Are we even going to have an U20's side?
I'd like to see Pryce loaned out, personally.

| Perhaps you could get the rules changed and sign a few on dual registration with the riversiders

| Is there any point having an under 20s. These Championship clubs are becoming like the equivalent clubs in Australia, who are nothing more than feeder clubs for the NRL.

| Great news.
How many is that now?
Stefan Marsh - Whitehaven
Josh Vievers - Whitehaven
Chris Tuson - Castleford
Shaun Ainscough - Castleford
Liam Farrell - Widnes
Ben Davies - Widnes
Neil Holland - Blackpool
John Walker - Blackpool
Anymore?
I think that only leaves Josh Charnley and Karl Pryce from the Reserves who are in the First team squad who are not out on loan.
Stefan Marsh and Josh Vievers will both get games too because Whitehaven are having a torrid time with injuries at the moment.

Of course there is a point to an U20's side.
Personally I think Wigan are doing an excellent job taking full advantage of one of the better ideas from the RFL.
These lads will be tested at a higher level now against tougher players and it will allow Wigan to make a more accurate judgement on who has a future at the club & who perhaps doesn't. It then means that when the ones who are good enough return to Wigan they are more battle hardened and ready for Super League & can slot right in.
Two of our stand out performers this year - Joel Tomkins and Lee Mossop have benefited from loan spells at championship clubs. It's a great move and one I am glad Wigan have picked up on.

IMO there is nothing wrong with that. No doubt Whitehaven want to be competitive in their league and Wigan see this as an opportunity to develop more and more players.
Good news all around.

| A little weird as I would have expected Vievers to play in the CC game next week?
Slight worry if we are gonna be playing a senior team when we should be resting.

It says in the article they will be free to play in the Challenge cup games for Wigan and can't play for Whitehaven. The same has been mentioned for every player that has gone on a dual loan.
Vievers can play in the Sheffield game.
I'm interested to see who gets a game for Sheffield. I reckon a few out of favour players - Karl Pryce, Feka Paleaasina - will get a game.

The Dual Registered players can't play for their 'Second' club in the challenge cup. I don;t know off the top of my head which Championship clubs are in the next round, but, any of our players who play for those teams won't be able to play for them. Also, with it being a Dual Registration, Wigan can recall these players whenever they want & send them back when they want. It's a really good deal for the Wigan club & for the youngsters.

I can't see Maguire and Wane resting players and taking the CC game lightly. That approach can lead to you getting embarrassed as Sheffield certainly won't be taking it lightly. I'd expect an attitude more along the lines of you can have a rest for the cup weekend if we are not still in it.

| Good news imo! Good opportunity for the players to be getting more games and shows they are part of the clubs plans.
I have a few mates up in Whitehaven and planning on visit to the Recre in a few weeks, so may get the chance to see how they boys are getting on.

| great idea . It will bring them on much faster. It will also leave gaps for some under 18 to push into the under 20 . this will bring their game on also. i cant see any disadvantage

Sheffield and the Challenge Cup don't sit comfortably alongside each other in my memory. I hear what everyone's saying, but I hope we aren't planning to turn out an A-team.
Let's not forget that Graham Lowe's unstoppable (and fleetingly very overconfident) Wigan side was stopped in its tracks in the first round of the CC by an Oldham team filled with geriatrics like Paddy Kirwin.
(Shudders at the mere memory).

That's the point I was making about why I don't think we will rest a lot of players as many think.
Lets not forget either that a highly motivated second tier Salford put an end to our eight year run in the cup.
