| who in here thinks tim smith should be offered a new contract for next year or two, i personally think with another game under his belt he could be one of the best scrum halves in the league, hes control around the ruck is fantastic and his passing is excellent that aswell his kicking, so what do people think

I think it doesn't matter whether we offer him one or not. I reckon he'll be going back to Aus next year, because that's what he's always implied he was going to do.

I think you are right.
Fair play to him. The deal with him was "come to Wigan and put yourself in the shop window again"
He has done that.

That is probably true, but would an Aussie club side be prepared to take him on after his previous well documented problems there,

| Lets see how it goes for the rest of the season, before contracts start being drawn up. 2 top performances out of 3 doesn't win it for me yet!
Yes he has a great talent, but we can get our hands on better!

He came to Wigan to get his career back on track, wigan took a big gamble on him and hopefully smith recognises this.
He will return to the NRL next season, and rightly so.

| Smith will go back at the end of the season.
He came here on that basis and there's no reason why he shouldn't. The only thing that might be a problem is finding a club. With his current form it won't be too difficult.
No doubt IL & BN have been planning to find a replacement all along.

| I think he'll go back after this season because that's where he wants to be. And good luck to him too, he's had his issues but seems back on track now.
Fingers crossed he keeps doing the business for us for the rest of this season!

What will concern Smith, as soon as he signs back into the NRL, the press will be watching him on and off the field like hawks.
Something that he doesnt have playing in SL.

Too true, the RL coverage in Sydney is like the football coverage here - page after page every day so hopefully he can just get his head down and play some good footy, as they say down under.

| The thing Smith needs to ask himself is do i want all the pressure again back home and can i handle it yet if he says no to any of the 2 questions then he needs to be looking for at least another 12 months over here. If he is bound to be homesick but if he go's back to play in the NRL and cracks again then he would find it very hard to get back into the game again. Its a hell of a big choice he has to make and one i would like to have to make.

If he is homesick, then do what most aussies do, fire off over there in the off season, which he did at the end of last year for 3 months.
He will be targetted in the press when he goes back, and i hope for his sakes he can take it. They will be looking at every angle of his game and picking out the bad parts. That i think he can handle, its his off the field life that got him into trouble at Parramata, in Wigan he can basically do what he likes on nights out and no one really cares (apart from a few player obsessed fans who post on here).

Very true.
Still a very big decision he has to make i would like him to stay here for another 12 months as personally i think he needs a little more time to prepare himself for the media onslaught that will come when he go's home i feel that 18 months is not long enough to get his mindset right but only time will tell.

| I would like to keep hold of him for 1 more year at least if he can maintain his current form for the rest of the year. I think he has started to bed in and also i think there will be some pretty good halves coming off contract at the end of 2010, probably superior to the players coming off contract this year.

| Has Smith got any previous convictions? Is he going to be able to renew his visa?
FWIW I think the lad wants to go back to Oz and challenge for rep honours.
