| Burgess to fullack, Davies on the right, Marshall on the left, Tomkins to the halves and Leuluai to hooker (80 mins).
Absolutely nothing to lose now for this season and I'm sick of watching the same turgid rubbish week in week out.

Exactly what I said in a conversation yesterday!

| I think most people fancy trying something like this. My only concern is do you do it before the semi final? With just a game inbetween now and that game it isn't long to bed it in and get any combinations going.
The top four is almost gone anyway so there's certainly nothing to lose in the league. I'd be looking to try a few things in the super 8's games and give lads like Wells and Ganson plenty of minutes.

Burgess struggled to adapt to centre so I don't see why he'd be more comfortable switching to fullback part way through the season. I'm sure he'd be capable but I don't think a mid-season switch is going to produce great results. The best fullbacks are quality ball players which Burgess isn't.
Also, moving Tomkins to the halves is something I wouldn't mind seeing, but I don't think doing it mid-season and moving someone out of position into the fullback role is going to help. Leuluai has struggled this year but I don't think it's been easy for him given how many positional changes have happened outside him; Marshall and Davies have been on the wing, Gelling, Forsyth and Isa have been his centres and J Tomkins, Isa, Wells and Bateman have been in the second row. Throwing another change into the mix could just make things worse.
I don't think the answer to a disorganised attack is to just throw players here there and everywhere and expect it to work miracles.
I would be intrigued to see how Powell does at scrum half and Leuluai at hooker, as when Leuluai played hooker previously he was very good at throwing some short passes to the forwards and creating good momentum down the middle. It's something a little bit different to the wide passes usually favoured by McIlorum and Powell. Having said that I'd also like to see Josh Ganson in the first team as he's a natural attacking hooker.
Even small changes like playing Jack Wells (or even Nick Gregson) at second row and moving Isa into the middle might make a difference. I really couldn't understand why Wells was used at prop against Wire when he's an outstanding back row forward whose best games have been in that position, while Isa was used out wide when he's actually had some good games down the middle (and he was apparently brought in to play down the middle).

| Burgess to full back - seriously? That would be an accident waiting to happen - he looks absolutely nothing like a full back even less then Tierney, he is winger pure and simple - he looked lost at centre, full back needs skills he has never shown.
Maybe when Escare is back Tomkins could be tried in the halves but for now he is the best option at full back, Lueluai to hooker is an option worth trying maybe switching with Powell, I would then spell Lockers with Mcilorum at loose forward (he plays like one anyway).
I also think the wing position needs to be decided - keep swapping Davis/Marshall is not helping - pick one and stick with them.

| TL to hooker with Ganson on the bench.
ST to halves with Davies at FB.
Start with TT and Clubb with Sutton, Frank ( no one else) and Wells on the bench.
We just seem to start too slowly so maybe Clubby and TT could reverse this trend.
It will never happen as MM is guaranteed a place irrespective of his input which for the last few years has been nominal at best.

| We have too many slow players at Wigan to trouble the opposition. Our two hookers are painfully slow. Nuasala is the same. Gelling's defence is woeful. Joel Tomkins needs to go. We need a new coach. If we can't get Darrel Powell, I'd go for Chis Chester. I much prefer to watch Castleford, Salford, Wakefield and Leeds rather than Wigan.
If it would mean a new coach and attacking flair next season I will gladly forego the match against Salford and a top four place.
Thursday's match was dire! I've had enough of boring rugby.

I'm sure I got hammered on here for suggesting this a month or so ago Tomkins to halves and Leuluai to hooker is well worth a go IMO. Ideally we would have Escare at FB but we have four quality wingers between two spots for now so it makes sense to give one of them a go at the back. I see what people are saying about it being risky ahead of a semi, but looking further ahead, we have just about enough time to bed them in before the CC final if we do it now.

You were, welcome to the dark side I would have a lot more respect for Wane if he at least tried it. It looks to me like it would take a new coach to try something new (like when Noble came in and shifted Richards to the wing)

| Am I alone in thinking that Davies would be better the better prospect at full back...Davies makes insane meters on the return and looks strong, however, I cannot really vouch for his ball playing skills and support play.
Burgess and Manfredi on the wings. Marshall as cover? Sam up to 7 alongside George and Tommy into the starting hooker role, swapping with Powell or MM?

I was literally about to post this, however my blimming phone has logged me out and i cant remember my password
Totally agree
His kick returns are superb, however he can be a little fragile under a bomb (no worse than Sam used to be).
Young enough to make a transition IMO. Assuming he does not already have experience of FB (Rogues will know i presume?)

Wigan rugby league, hated, adored but never ignored
Terry Newton - 07.11.78 - 26.09.10 - R.I.P.: |

| I'd like to see Powell in the halves with Leuluai & Micky Mac sharing hooker position. Powell can last 80 mins and seems a shame to have him & Micky only on for 40 mins each. As for full back, I'd keep Sam there, think he's our best option at present, see how he goes then let him & Escare fight it out next season. FPN should be on the bench, hasn't done anything to suggest he deserves a starting spot.

| Last year we got more out of our props than this year. Why, due to us having 2 extra interchanges as Powell was doing 80 mins. The props were fresher and better last year because of that. Get back to Powell doing 80 mins and use MM to interchange with Lockers. Having Sutton, FPN Lockers and MM all going off within minutes isn't working.
We are playing poorly and the squad needs improving. It is up to the coaching staff to sort it out and if they don't there's not much to look forward to this season.
