Adrian Lam names 21-man squad to face St Helens in Round 19 of the Betfred Super League.
Two changes as Liam Byrne and Chris Hankinson replace Dom Manfredi and Joe Shorrocks.
St Helens vs Wigan Warriors, Friday 30th October, Totally Wicked Stadium, K.O. 7:45pm.
Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors 21-man squad to face rivals St Helens this Friday in Round 19 of the Betfred Super League.
The Cherry and Whites will travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium for the second week in a row to face local rivals Saints in a battle of first vs second.

Lam has made changes to the side selected for Salford last week, with Liam Byrne and Chris Hankinson replacing Joe Shorrocks and the injured Dom Manfredi.

Updating on Manfredi earlier this week, the Head Coach said: “Dom has fluid on his knee at the moment. We are going to get that drained this week and see how it sits, but it could potentially be another week or two for Dom.”

Willie Isa will make his 250th career appearance if selected on Friday.
Injury News
Club Captain Sean O’Loughlin misses out again with a hamstring strain and is expect back within two weeks.

Youngster Ethan Havard continues to recover from an ankle injury first sustained against Leeds Rhinos in Wigan’s Coral Challenge Cup Semi Final defeat.

Back-rower Jack Wells remains sidelined following a MCL tear and knee dislocation suffered against St Helens in Round 14.

Winger Liam Marshall continues his long-term recovery from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament knee injury sustained during the Round 10 tie with Castleford.

We can’t afford to blow cold this week after being so hot last week, albeit against a weak Salford side. It seems like we say this too often but this really is a big test for Lam. I’ve no doubt the talent in this squad is there to beat Saints and win trophies, it’s up to Lam to get it out of them and a win v Saints will certainly help start to convince those who remain unconvinced by Lam.

Edit: Hank mistakenly in for Hardaker

I meant Hardaker. I’ve been on nights with little sleep and a stroppy toddler. My bad icon_biggrin.gifOH:

No way I would go with one prop on the bench against St Helens. It could well be the same 17 as last week for probably the first time all year. Lam might put Smith back in to have that option but it would surely be a back rower to make way - you dont need two of those on the bench. I doubt George Burgess will be risked in this one and I'm not convinced by Liam Bryne yet so I probably would stick with Clubb all things considered.

Edit

Behave.. That squad is nowhere near enough to beat Saints on a regular basis. Theres probably only 3 players that would get in the saints 17..

Go on, which four of French, Hardaker, Gildart, Hastings, Singleton, Powell and Farrell wouldn't even make the bench at Saints?

Not a bad side Yep! I'm not a big Grace fan but I'd probably give you him over Manfredi on currently form.
