| You could try pointing out that the likes of Hape and Ashton getting big praise in Union both learned their trade in RL, along with the likes of Jason Robinson in years past.
Or try this random question to anyone outside the RL heartlands - name a famous RL club team and a famous RU club team? My guess is then name of Wigan RL is better known worldwide than any RU club, truth is RU is all about the international game and being on BBC gives it a higher profile. Now that Engleand RU have actually maanaged to win a game or two and have discovered how to actually play something like rugby (in short spells) how the media are going overboard.

Agree with this. Union has a higher profile because people outside the heartlands dont give league a chance. When I was at uni there was 2 lads from london in my house and they both criticised league and said it was boring. It turned out they had never sat and watched a full 80 mins before and I got them watching super league on sky and they both loved it. One of them even started coming to a few wigan away games with me (was at uni in Hull so used to do most of the Yorkshire games)
The extent of his coaching is ''BASH EM, JUST F*CKING BASH EM. HE'S LOW ON CONFIDENCE, BASH HIM''
He's a limited coach that won't last long term.[/quote:8f22o6ue]
....
That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.[/quote:8f22o6ue]: |

im in the same position now. i am at hull uni and when we get onto the topic of rugby people love to talk about union. they also love to slate league, but most of my mates admit to never watching a full game.

| I am at uni in Sheffield but most of my uni mates are originally from Manchester and they haven't got a clue. I did however get a friend from London interested in it.

I laughed at the weekend when a commentator said sonny bill williams and his 'wonderful' one handed offloads like it was new to do a one handed offload

| One good question when that is said is "Where did you learn your rugby then?"
The usual answer is "I never learned rugby really"

| Just tell them that the object of rugby is to score a try and not for the fullbacks to play tennis with the ball

| Tell them the truth that the new wonder player Ashton, who is the biggest thing in union at present would not even make the starting line up for us.
Pat Richards MOS
Amos Roberts would have won MOS if he missed the post.
Sam Tomkins World best new player.
Also show them the Super League 15 DVD for the season. 1 long range try in union they get excited. Amos was doing it week in week out for us as did Tomkins.

Really?
I went to Hull myself (Needler Hall!), and it's a massive League town. Football took a back seat to League and Union wasn't even a blip on the radar.

| I have friends down in Richmond and they are big R.U. fans, they say that they dont like league as its to stop start for them.I couldnt convince them otherwise, how they can watch union and them say league is stop start is beying me,rucks that go on for ages, mauls that go on and on,scrums that constantly collapse, line outs, ping pong between the full backs, but you just cant convince them otherwise.

| Depends what they mean by 'League is useless'? If they mean organisation, worldwide media, international events...etc then unfortunately their spot on - we cannot compare.
If they're talking about content then I'd invite them to your's mid season and invite them all to a game (Good Friday would be a belter), maybe the Leeds or Wire home games.
The rest should look after itself. TGG.
