| Pre season I was thinking it wouldn’t create too many issues if Field were to leave as there are some outstanding fullbacks not getting games in the NRL systems and he could be comfortably replaced.
I’m happy to put my hand up and say I was wrong, he looks fit and motivated and the way he has started the season if he can keep it up he’s got to be in contention for MOS although it is early days.
I don’t believe there is a way back for him to the NRL. I don’t think financially it would stack up for him and his style doesn’t suit over there, plus there is a massive talent pool at 1.

Some have said (wonder who) that Field cannot pass or tackle well the tackle on Swift to put him into touch and the miss out pass for Marshall to score say's otherwise.
Back to is best now.
Well they must have been watching a different team! Did they miss the WCC last season? His defence was sublime. His passing has improved year on year and his speed, well I don't know any faster in the game. He frightens defences to death. Get his contract extended.

Out of interest, if he did go, who do you think we could target? I'm not too well up on the NRL tbh but one I could think of was Daine Laurie, who is just playing a back up utility role at Penrith. I wonder if we may go internal and put French back there with Farrimond going to 6 but it feels like French has made the 6 shirt his position now and as he gets older, the less you would want to move him back to fullback.

| I think it would depend on how Wigan are managing their marquee spots. I always assumed our marquees were French, Thompson and Field but not sure whether there may have been some changes to accommodate Nsemba or Smith's new contracts.
If Field is marquee then you could imagine Mike Danson offering higher than any NRL club - it's just about how badly Field may want to go home.

They would certainly value him below the level we'll be paying/offering I'd imagine. They're so insular towards the NRL and it's strength that you're nobody unless you've done it in that comp. They talk about English players who go over as though they've plucked them from a local Macdonalds. A prime example of an NRL bias could be seen in the North Queensland side at the weekend. Bateman did nothing in Superleague last year and his career has been on the slide for a while. He started the game and Kai O'Donnell didn't make the 17. There is no doubt in my mind that O'Donnell is the better player nowadays but that long term NRL background Bateman now has gives him the spot.

I would love us to go al out for Tyrell Sloan. Hes lost his place at the Dragons but he would absolutely tear Superleague up

| Wrote an essay in response to this as to why I think these could be gettable but it errored and I can get it back.
I’m not doing it again so in quick terms I’d go for the following
Tedesco, Fletcher Sharpe, Laurie, AJ Brimson, Tom Chester, Jye Gray.

Re Tedesco - Wigan haven't signed a player over 30 from the NRL for a while and I think that's a good policy to have.

| I appreciate Wigan have tended to not sign 30 plus NRL players but there have to be some exceptions.
Tedesco would be one of the biggest signings of all time in SL.
He’s still in the top 3 fullbacks in the NRL is the ultimate professional and has a great injury record and is a natural leader.
I think he will sign 1 more year at the Roosters and I don’t think Field will be going anywhere. After the 2026 season though I think he will be heading to SL as I don’t see him playing for anyone else apart from Wests but they have Bula who is very much the future.
I do think Catalans will be keen on getting him for 2026 but I expect this is going to be a tough year for the Roosters with them investing heavily for an assault on a premiership next season which I think he will want to be a part of.

i didnt think they could be our marquee based on the wording of the marquee types, but have had another read, and it only says that at least one must be federation trained, so it a case of the accountants working their numbers to work out which saves us most on the cap. So my initial understanding was that we were allowed one of each of the below, but by the sounds of it, it could be 1 * fed trained and 2 * non-Fed trained home grown £50k on cap- so club trained i.e Faz, Smith or Nsemba federation trained £100k on capi.e. Wardle, Thompson non federation trained £150k on cap i.e. Field, French, Ellis
