Theres been similar chat in our rugby whatsappp group the last few days about play off systems, driven by Salfords decision.
And after getting frustrated reading dozens off messages, I referenced my frustration at reading this thread

There is no system that makes every game count, teams/clubs will.always do what's best for them and quite rightly so
HKR didn't give a monkeys 2023 when they rested 20 players at our place before the CC final? We finished top on points difference last year, if they don't do that then maybe we don't finish top, or 2nd or whatever

And youll be able to find similar things through wvery season, even first past the post when teams rested players before big Challenge cup games

On this thread, on our WhatsApp group, sat listening to people in pubs everyone criticises The RFL, the structure, a club whatever when something like this happens, and then say it was better when we had x, y or z conveniently forgetting the troubles those systems had and everyone whos complaing is in agreement that this system is wrong but they all disagree about what the best system is.

I get that, but it can be damaging ... even if only because it doesn't showcase the best of us to the rest of the world. I remember having a conversation with a rival club-supporting friend back around 1993, and he quite seriously told me that we in Wigan had no clue "what damage" we were doing to the game overall. He said something like "it's all very well celebrating another Cup win in which the opposition had no chance, but the rest of us are just demoralised and depressed that the game we love has been taken away from us."

He seemed to have no conception that the onus was on the also-rans to up their game. It's an age-old frustration I have with our sport. But then, we haven't won the Grand Slam yet, so I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

Its the tall poppy syndrome any one who rises above needs to be cut down asap.
Wigan are the most entertaining club at the min,we have it on the pitch just right but even more off the pitch.
It's an absolute joy to watch Wigan,enjoy it as much as you can it does'nt last forever.
We was also laughing at the Salford fans one minute "are you watching HKR " next "Salford Reds are rising" and "your support is f*cking sh*t " to the 15,000 from the 300 ,brilliant just brilliant.

In the Super League era, winning all 4 trophies in the same year, WCC, Challenge Cup, League Leaders and Super League.

Don't believe it's been done before. Saints won a treble in 2006 and the WCC the following year in 2007. Bradford won the WCC in 2006.

Same for Bradford who won a treble in 2003 but didn't win the WCC that year.

I think that Wigan are the only team to win all four trophies in a season. That happened in 1991/92 and 1993/94. Nobody has done it in the SL era.
