Quote: The Avenger "Both sides were far from full strength
Wakefield probably had the advantage of being closer to the start of their season than Wigan
Wigan have the advantage of a much deeper squad in terms of quality so some replacements are still 1st choice standard
While Wakefield did look pretty comfortable and deservedly won the game (62 mins) it doesn’t mean much. Wigan will still be there or there about at the business end of SL and the CC while Trinity will be plying their trade in the Championship and hopefully winning the 1895 Cup.
In the coming few years & seasons though, if the words of Wakefields new owner become reality, we’ll be right up there fighting Wigan for honours.'"
Hope so. These guys like Ellis at Wakey, Beaumont at Leigh and Hudgell and co at HKR are driving clubs forward and it’s more the merrier. I believe he’s going all out for Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeekan next year, so clearly he’s not messing about and it’s been good to see the people of Wakey responding.
Friday didn’t mean a great deal for us but I thought it was a great way for Wakey to start this new era at home (the light issue aside).
