Same with the "Spear or Tip" tackle by French. The phrase "a bit harsh" was nonsense. Why didn't they ask which part of the Leeds player was lifted above the horizontal?

If the match officials were called out live on tv their seniors would soon sort things out and standards would improve. That includes the logic, or lack of, a referee going to the VR and saying I think it is a try or No try. Just allow the VR ton make the decision, he's a full time referee and as capable as the match referee for giving the correct opinion.

An opinion like "They can't give that, it's just illegal".

I just watched the Wests game. That was a shocker, that literally atole the game for the Cowboys. Wasn't the only bad decision in that game by any means, though.
