Very sad news indeed . Maurice Lindsey was a 'visionary', and was responsible for turning us around in the early 80's to what we became. A very major force in Rugby League once again. The 1970's were dire, well apart from Bill Ashurst in the team . I did manage to speak briefly with him once when he was doing his 'day job', at Chester races, around 2003. He was a very articulate and thoughtfully spoken man indeed.

Interesting comments about the salery cap. Wasn't it Maurice who brought it in to hopefully prevent clubs going bust?

A lot has been said about ML & what he did for the game but don’t think many people realise what a good boxer he was in his younger days.

Not many men wanted to fight Lindsey who was as tough and skilful in the ring as he was in his approach to business.

This may be my imagination but didn’t the salary cap start as a percentage of income with no upper limit. It was only after Mo left it was changed to a finite amount.

Really sad to see the lack of acknowledgment of his passing from Latics. He's a former chairman of their club and whilst some of the fan base might not have liked him, you'd expect a club to be above that.

The problem there is that a significant number of their fans still hate him ... mainly because their grandads told them they should.

I dont think that is the case, some fans resented the idea of merger clubs, quite rightly, I mean there was plenty on the table, and I think Mo would have been happy to see them in the final run, but for a large campaign against that part.
