It is tongue in cheek but realistically he isn’t coming in to the environment that Lam came in to. We were champions at that point and people expect that to just carry on, even though you’ve lost Wane, Tomkins, Bateman and Sutton and not replaced them properly. That’s not a defence of Lam, he was dreadful but at least Peet comes in to a club now where people (like you said above) are going ‘well I’ll be happy if it’s at least more entertaining than last season’. His appointment may bring mixed views but if we show some early signs of recovery, he’ll start to build goodwill pretty quickly IMO. He’s a proper Wiganer Matty Peet, a normal lad from Hindley and I wish him nothing but the best.
