| Quote CyberPieMan="CyberPieMan"It's more like a management [iteam[/i than Wane being Peet's "mentor" isn't it? I don't see it much different than when Madge was here & unlike Lam they won't need 6 months' adjustment (if he ever really did get it) nor underestimate SL in general (I really do think he came over with the attitude that SL was a vastly inferior game & he'd just be able to sit back & relax for a while).
At least I can stop fretting whether to renew my ST now, I'd be burning shirts if McDermott had been hired as was the speculation in some quarters.'"
I read an interview that referred to Wane mentoring Peer. It significantly mentioned it

Was that not referring to when Wane was head coach and Peet was assistant?

| Having a coach who has got the gig purely off coaching merit rather than what he did as a player is appealing to me. I'm optimistic.

| Quote Egg Chasing="Egg Chasing"Shaun Wane - born winner who makes everyone below him better. The current England coach.
Matty Peet - Coached us when we had the strongest defence in the league and even when we've been poop we've had a solid defence. Coached the academy.
SOL - One of the best players of his generation and getting good praise as a coach. No issues if he takes over the defence as he wasn't exactly a bad defender. Great leader.
Briers - Cracking player, received good reviews as a coach in some circles, replaces the poor attack coach we all asked to replace.
What is underwhelming about it?'"
As I said in the post you replied to - we've gone back to the Wigan bubble, we've even brought back Wane into some part-time role that I'm not exactly sure what he'll do. Some of the things you say about O'Loughlin and Briers applied to Lam. We need some new thinking and a fresh approach - have no problem with Peet, O'Loughlin or Briers as assistant coaches but not as the main man.

Why not? How long does your CV need to be before you get the gig? Bearing in mind that Madge and Wane both had zero first team head coach experience.
Peet has coached England also BTW.

The above was just an answer as to why people will be underwhelmed.
I'd be more comfortable with a proven coach, I suppose. Particularly after the last few seasons. Time will tell if it is the correct decision though.

Maguire was widely regarded as the best NRL assistant and ready for the next step (he even coached Melbourne when Bellamy when on State of Origin duty) and was exactly what we needed to shake things up. For me we are at the same point when the club needs a new rocket up its collective backside.
Wane was groomed to be Maguire successor and was part of the vast improvements that Maguire instilled from day one, I'm not sure Peet has had that over he last three years with Lam.

| Not too sure what Wane's role actually is. Sounds like he's essentially a supervisor. I imagine a priority when planning this would be to establish firm boundaries.
