I’ve not seen Cas play that bad against us at their place in all my time but we’ll take it. It can only be a starting point for us if we want to make the play offs and then make some sort of impression but at least a foundation we can try and build from.

I thought Hardaker and Hastings went well. Halsall has to keep that wing spot, to ensure the pack is as strong as it can be, Harry Smith was much improved and the pack was game. We’ll need far far more next week and beyond but we’ll see how we go.

Leading up to the game, he'd been playing well enough, but was simply anonymous on the night. We needed so much more from him and, I'm sure he'd agree, he just didn't deliver.

That was his opportunity and he bottled it. If he'd have performed, he could have named his price on a new contract + potentially worked into the reckoning for an England spot.

I think playing him there has been one of your biggest issues recently. The Saints game was comical watching him and Roby at the PTB, it was like Shorricks was playing on the moon.

The lack of trust in O’Neil has been a strange one. Absolutely superb for Widnes by all accounts and excellent for us outside of a few dodgy mins against Wakey. Maybe he’s a victim of Lam limiting his junior forward selection to 5 or 6 junior middles but he’d just have had the 9 shirt for me as soon as Powell was ruled out. If they then felt the need to take another young forwards out the team and put in Clark for example, then do it.

Ive just watched the full replay and must admit it was probably the best team performance since Lam was in charge only the 2nd time Cas have been nilled in SL history
