| Manfredi out again for a month, time to get rid of the lad, I don’t mean to be harsh but I’m sick to death of reading about him getting another injury, bloke is a liability quite frankly

I suppose he will be judged on the performances when he does play. Yes he's injured again with a hand injury that's totally unrelated to anything gone previous. If he can get through most of this season in form and scoring without further injury then the club will judge him on that. It says in the link below that he's out of contract in November so a 'make or break' (pardon the pun) season for him:

| It's undoubtedly frustrating, but at the same time completely unrelated to the rest of his injuries. I'd put it down to bad luck Vs his being a liability.
Looks like we're up against it, but that's sport really. You could probably argue the need for some extra cover, but with Gildart, French, Field and Dom all new additions to the injury/unavailable list it's just bad luck.
I wonder if Hankinson has a recall clause?

| I suspect we will offer him a deal financially linked to his number of appearances. Not quite PAYP but not quite a starting wingers wage either.
We have plenty of back up and money should be spent in the front row for me and we may potentially need a new FB or HB depending on what happens so going out signing a new top level winger would be last on my list of wants.

YES!
If French/Field/Manfredi/Marshall/Gildart all miss the start of the year I’d reluctantly but our marquee back rower in the centres.
Hardaker
Hanley
Bateman
Isa
Bibby
Hastings
Tommy
Singleton
Powell
Partington
Farrell
Smithies
Havard
Bullock
Clark
Clubb
Sharrocks
Hopefully French is back and fit then hardaker centre bateman backrow smithies bench.
Not ideal, should have kept Hankinson.

Genuine question, as I don't have a clue, but can you do that in a SC sport?
Imagine if you agreed a deal of a base salary + extra money linked to his number of appearances, say £100k was the max he could earn for arguments sake, but he got injured with 50% of the season left. In theory there's £50k left to bring in cover for the rest of the season.
If that cover then got injured and Dom was back to full fitness with a couple of games left (like 2018) there wouldn't be enough room to pay him the appearance part of the deal. In theory he'd have a base salary, but the extra money to cover those appearances might not be there. We'd potentially have a fit winger, who's getting paid but we can't play him.

Saved me typing that team out. I was just about to say I see no choice but to run with a real workmanlike team in the first couple of rounds if all the backs doubtful are out. I’d probably put Harry Smith or Liam Byrne in for Clubb but other than that I think that side is our best chance of getting a couple of wins on the board.
In the longer term I hope Manfredi’s injury is just a little gee up for the management that we’re likely to need some cover in that position. It’s been clear to see for most people on here that it’s an area that could be a problem from a depth perspective. Two areas need attention-depth in the outside backs and a quality starting prop is needed. It was good to hear Lam say those are the two positions he’s looking at.

The cap would have to be counted for him playing every game, but I wasn't suggesting PAYP, more that we would reduce his salary despite him being our possible starting winger.

Depends if he'd sign that. I know he's had his injuries but I think most SL clubs would still be interested if he became available. I haven't really kept track of how much of it is the same injury recurring and how much is bad luck. I've got in the back of my mind that at least some of it was unrelated injuries (plus obviously the current hand injury).

That would be the risk I suppose, but every contract renewal carries that.
Do we keep him on a 1st choice salary and then he ends up out for half of it leaving us short elsewhere perhaps or do we attempt to reduce the salary based on the risk of injury and keep him?
There will be plenty of examples of players leaving and never being injured again but then there are probably the same number of examples of signing a player and him never playing.
I think he's a top player and be wanting to keep him, but those injuries would be inthe back of my mind when looking at the numbers and other places we may be able to spend money.
Hopefully he answers them all this season by playing 90% of it and being at the top of his game

| Do we know how long KPP is out for? Not saying he's the answer to our prayers but if we are staring down the barrel of having Isa and Bateman in the centres he's got to come into consideration of he's back in time.
