Anything could be classified as a hate crime, for example I could call you a “white idiot” and if you are harassed/alarmed/distressed and believe it be as because of your race (white) it’s classified as a hate crime. Anyone can perceive an incident as a hate incident, they don’t necessarily have to be the victim. It’s a minefield.
Re BLM; I’m all for eradicating any form of racism from society. There is absolutely no place for it anywhere in the world in any walk of life, I find it utterly deplorable and I fully expect any SL player/coach who didn’t take the knee to have the same opinion. You don’t have to take the knee to be anti racist, you don’t have to back BLM to be anti racist either. I’ve read and listened to [isome[/i BLM members and it truly is horrifying what they’re saying or doing. Full serials of people in stab vests marching (poorly) like they’re a military unit or a police public order unit. Calling for the abolishment of the police, triggering at every stop of a BAME person irrespective of the result or cause.
If black lives truly mattered where is the outrage at the indefensible abhorrent black murders in London? Why are they not calling out the gangs? Marching against gang violence? Working
with authorities to eradicate it from our streets? And whilst I know there have been marches against it by victims families and friends, It seems to be extremely selective to me. Happy to be shown to be wrong.
Black lives matter, of course they do but I feel the meaning has been lost. Originally it was to highlight the struggles, lack of opportunity, law enforcement targeting of the BAME community (the latter far more prevalent in the USA than UK) until it took on this far, far left meaning.
For the record, I’m a left leaning Labour voter and member. But the actions of some Labour MP’s make me question my political loyalty. Luckily I won’t vote Tory as long as there’s a hole in my back side.
Nb. I don’t particularly care for what political party you vote for or your views on BLM. As long as you’re not a racist buffoon I won’t be calling you out.
