Bateman is world class. Since when did a club turn away a world class player? Wigan might have some decent back row forwards but if you can sign one who is better than those you have, why would you not? |

John Davidson saying Wigan have got bateman on a bargain salary, less than he was on a Canberra.
Might not be marquee money. As someone has said we normally mention in the press release if someone’s signed a marquee contract.
The fact we got £200k for him and he’s back after 2 years. One in which he’s got his shoulder fixed.
If his shoulder is fine this is genius from IL.

That's incredible if so. Hats off to IL and Rads.
Still disappointed with them extending Clubb's contract but all of our other business recently has been top drawer (G. Burgess still TBD). |

He’s on just over 200k a year which is still a lot but it’s less than he was on at Canberra. Him and Burgess are the marquees for next year because we don’t know what Hastings is doing yet, although he’s not Marquee anyway |

The Aussie press quote ridiculous salaries. There will only be a couple of people who know for sure what he’s on but I think we can be pretty sure Wigan can’t have been able to offer him £400,000 a season. |

I think it's a default mechanism - when a player wants to come to England it has to be about money.
I know his agent is getting a bit of stick but I imagine JB didn't want to consider another year away from his daughter unless it was so financially lucrative it would be silly not to. His agent would have explored whether such a deal was possible elsewhere and when it became clear that it wasnt then I imagine the decision was a relatively easy one.
I do however hope the signing doesnt cause problems down the road regarding pay cuts for the existing roster. |
