They had to leave Blackpool after new ground regs, brought in following the Bradford City fire in 1985, condemned wooden stands. Springfield was best option but the pitch took a battering and Athletic served then six months notice to leave. They first went to Chorley then Altrincham before returning to Blackpool in 1992.
They ran Leeds (22-12) and Salford (12-10) close in cups, finished one place off promotion to Division 1 and almost reached the second division Premiership Final. So they performed pretty well despite most crowds sub 1,000.
