He's making a joke based on the guy in dispute with William Hill after he bet on Hastings for MOS and Salford to make the play offs and they wouldn't pay out on the odds he was quoted as the two are related (ie if Hastings won MOS, its highly likely Salford made the play offs). The joke has soared over everyone's heads

But Williams winning Dally M and NZ Warriors winning the GF wouldn't be a related bet so if it is a joke (which I doubt) it makes no sense.

Of course they would. If their new half back wins the Dally M, it follows that NZ almost certainly had at least a good year, making it more likely they win the final. Same as with Hastings/Salford. Ahhh never mind I give up
