Quote: Last Son of Wigan "Totally disagree regarding Greenwood. On his day he’s up there with the best SR in super league, a real handful to tackle due to his size and running style. He’s skilled with a good offload and pass.
Cast you’re mind back to when we demolished Saints at the end of last season, or any game in the playoffs. He was fantastic. Even when younger at Saints he was quality.
What we’re seeing now is a player who’s low and confidence and probably going through a mental battle. He’s had a number of head knocks and needs supporting to regain confidence, once he does he’ll be up there with the best of the once again.'"
There's no doubting he's a great line runner, that's what he's always had but he's just not aggressive enough, he doesn't strike fear in to the opposition and he certainly doesn't hit hard defensively the way the likes Isa, Bateman, Farrell amongst others have done, Farrell not as hard but Farrells work rate speaks for itself. I can only think of one decent game this year that Greenwood has had, last year he was fortunate that he had Bateman, Isa along side of him to help him out and a much better pack.
Cast your mind back to Saints away this year in the opening fixture, we have a set on our own line and he goes out wide missing defensively. It's one of the many reasons why Saints got rid of him. Very lazy in defence and only provides a couple of decent line runs, they haven't exactly wanted him back since he's left them, speaks volumes for me.
He was a bit of a luxury signing when we added him last year with the quality that we already had and fitted in well, however when the tough gets going, he gets going. Compare that with someone to the likes of Willie Isa, give me a Willie Isa every day of the week who puts his body on the line and hardly gets any credit when we're playing poor and is often an easy scapeogat, (Sam Powell another of the scapegoats when playing poor) his commitment though I would never question, Greenwoods I certainly would.
