Quote: stpatricks "It's certainly a problem that needs dealing with. There will be people who will not attend games because of what's going on. Two games coming up against Wigan and Saints that will highlight any further issues. The club need to be doing things to remove the culprits and the stigma that's attached to decent fans. The frustration for fans of other clubs were the attempts to put the blame on anyone but those involved.'"
I've posted before that I wish to have the perpetrators punished.
But I find your final paragraph totally way off the mark. There might be the odd numpty who will claim that Warrington fans did nothing wrong in France, but the vast majority certainly don't. However, evidence will have to be gathered and the factors for what happened understood, before any progress can be made.
What concerns me mostly is we now have a reputation for violence, and violence breeds violence. From my experience of watching the game in the seventies, there was a tit for tat mentality with some groups of supporters at certain clubs. There was even a league table of who had the worse fans, which had the effect of the idiots from each club wanting to be top of it. Coaches being "bricked" became a regular occurrence, and I still keep my colours hidden when coming home from the stadium of an away fixture, because of the experience of that era. I sincerely hope that we aren't heading back to those dark days, but I fear that Warrington will now be a magnet for retribution from some groups of rival supporters wanting to teach Warrington supporters a lesson, making it more difficult to watch RL in a safe and orderly environment.
I agree that Warrington need to take action against any identifiable culprit (and for Catalans to do the same), but this needs time to so. This won't be done quickly enough for some folk, and the episode with the Saints coach may prove impossible for the club to be able to do anything about (hopefully the police can do something if the perpetrator(s) can be ID'd).
it's a poor situation for us to be in, but the "pitchfork waving" and misjudged claims that were blaming everyone else but ourselves, are not going help to resolve anything.
