There was a good reason for that. We sacked the coach and went and splashed out on a couple of players. I'll never forget Stuart Fielden coming over to the East Stand mid-game and geeing the crowd up. It was epic.

We signed a prop in Fielden and a half back in Dobson and off we went. Very unlucky not to make the playoffs and had we done so they were so fired up and on form I think we might have even won it.

Now if things get worse can you see IL doing that sort of thing because I can't. It seems that all we want to do this season is avoid relegation. It is a shame that we have a lot of decent players who do not really complement each other. Take the centre position, I would happily have either player in the team but I would rather that the did not play on the same team because I like to see at least one big centre. At wing we have our nominal third and fourth choice wingers playing most weeks. Hankinson looked fat and immobile on Friday as did several of the forwards. Huddersfield looked to have an extra fear all Over the park.
We know that we lost too much talent last year and that several players are coming to the end of their playing careers so I would like to see some forward thinking. I would be happy if IL would say that this year is an opportunity for youngsters to stake a claim or at least that we are actively looking for players because other teams are getting better value for money. The problem is that it is our better players who are off contract at the end of the season rather than our make weights. When it is announced that George is going we will look like a distinctly threadbare team.
If you remember the last time that we were in this position we were forced to promote youngsters too early and it killed the careers of the likes of Brown. It would be a shame to see that happen to young Harry who could be a special talent. Unfortunately we do not have the hope of a big name signing being parachuted in, they have all been signed by our rivals.
