He’d probably slot back in to a #2 role but I can’t see how he’d be up for that. Taking the reigns at a club like Wigan is huge and to be dropped back in to #2 would be gutting.

Let’s say the club do go down that route; what if Lam is an overwhelming success in his first season? Would we really drop him and go with Edwards? What if Edwards is then an overwhelming disaster?

I know it’s all hypothetical what ifs but they are very real possibilities that aren’t far from the realms of reality.

People talking about Lachlan Lam but Adrian has already said that if Lachlan comes he will only be here for a year. That doesn’t help with continuity again, unless Edwards gets to pick someone to sign for us for when he starts.

Smith and Green waiting in the wings?

Do you think they’ll be ready come 2020? Hearing good things on both but we may just need somebody to plug a gap for a year or two around then to give them chance to come through. That’s assuming Williams stays as well because if he goes then we’ll probably need two players aside from the year of Lam between now and the start of 2020.

Shorrocks and Woods and Hampshire before them were also waiting in the wings. I like the young wiganers as much as anyone, but they don’t always develop to be the players we expect.
